Identity, accounts and access

Reviewed against Mediabot 3.6dev-20261006_084503 (snapshot of 6 October 2026). This is the development-line reference; consult the tagged source for stable-release behaviour.

Examples use !; replace it with the configured trigger (m, #, etc.). See notation, transport and permissions. Each entry names its registered IRC surfaces; a handler accepting a private context does not itself make a name callable by PM. Plugin and dynamic-command policy may add restrictions.

access

Inspect a target account’s channel level, automode and greeting.

Access: public. IRC surfaces: channel + private message.

!access [#channel] <handle|=nick>

A plain target is a Mediabot account handle. Prefix the target with = to resolve a live IRC nick through WHOIS. The channel may be omitted only when invoked in that channel. There is no implicit self target; use !access #channel YourHandle.

addhost

Add a hostmask to a known user.

Access: Master+. IRC surfaces: channel + private message.

!addhost <handle> <hostmask>

Adds the given hostmask to an existing handle. Include the intended ident/host match; broad masks affect recognition.

adduser

Create a bot user.

Access: Master+. IRC surfaces: channel + private message.

!adduser <handle> [-n] <hostmask> [Owner|Master|Administrator|User]
!adduser -n <handle> <hostmask> [Owner|Master|Administrator|User]

Default role: User. The mask must contain @. -n requests a private notification with password/login instructions only after the live nick and hostmask guard succeeds. It never supplies a password on behalf of the new account. Role hierarchy and account creation checks still apply.

auth

Check or refresh your authentication status.

Access: Administrator+. IRC surfaces: channel + private message.

!auth <nick>

Triggers an IRC WHOIS for the named nick through the network-specific authentication path. It is not the command for displaying your own Mediabot login; use whoami.

birthdate

Show the bot’s configured birthdate and age.

Access: public. IRC surfaces: channel + private message.

!birthdate

Displays the bot’s configured birthdate (main.MAIN_PROG_BIRTHDATE) and age. It does not read a user birthday or accept a target.

birthday

Display birthday information.

Access: public. IRC surfaces: channel.

!birthday <handle>
!birthday next
!birthday add user <handle> [DD/MM|DD/MM/YYYY]
!birthday del user <handle>

Dates must be calendar-valid. next lists the next 30 days. Omitting the date in add user clears it; del user also clears it. These are the legacy birthday branches; do not infer global account-administration rights from their public help label. Use only for intended account data.

checkhost

Search users matching a hostmask.

Access: admin. IRC surfaces: channel + private message.

!checkhost <hostmask>

Uses the host part after the last @ and searches stored masks for that literal host fragment. SQL wildcard characters are escaped; this is not arbitrary SQL or regex.

checkhostchan

Search channel users matching a hostmask.

Access: admin. IRC surfaces: channel + private message.

!checkhostchan [#channel] <hostname>

Omit the channel only in the target channel. Searches stored channel users by host; in PM the channel is required.

checknick

Search known hostmasks for a nick.

Access: Master+. IRC surfaces: channel + private message.

!checknick <nick>

Searches stored nick identities and returns their hostmasks. A supplied nick!ident@host is reduced to its nick component.

deluser

Delete a bot user.

Access: Master+. IRC surfaces: channel + private message.

!deluser <handle>

Deletes the named Mediabot account subject to hierarchy checks. A handle is not a wildcard deletion selector.

greet

Show or set a greeting.

Access: public. IRC surfaces: channel + private message.

!greet [#channel] [nick]

Reads the stored channel greeting; default target is the caller’s nick. In PM name a channel. Set greetings with modinfo ... greet, not with greet <text>.

ident

Legacy/private authentication helper.

Access: private. IRC surfaces: private message.

/msg BotNick ident <login> <password>

Private authentication compatibility helper. Use login for the ordinary documented workflow; it does not replace IRC Services authentication.

login

Authenticate with the bot.

Access: private. IRC surfaces: private message.

/msg BotNick login <user> <password>

Private message only: /msg BotNick login YourHandle YourPassword. The handle is the Mediabot account name, which may differ from the IRC nick. Credentials are not an IRC channel command.

logout

Logout from the bot.

Access: private. IRC surfaces: private message.

/msg BotNick logout

No command parameters. Channel-scoped results refer to the invocation channel.

modinfo

Change a channel user’s automode, greeting or numeric access.

Access: Authenticated; Administrator+ or command-specific channel level. IRC surfaces: channel + private message.

!modinfo [#channel] automode <handle> <OP|VOICE|NONE>
!modinfo [#channel] greet <handle> <text|none>
!modinfo [#channel] level <handle> <0..500>

Changes per-channel user settings, not global roles. The target must be linked to that channel. none removes the greeting. Level changes obey anti-escalation checks. Greeting self-service uses the handler’s lower channel-level path; changing another user’s access or automode needs the appropriate channel administration privilege.

moduser

Modify a bot user.

Access: Administrator+. IRC surfaces: channel + private message.

!moduser <handle> level <Owner|Master|Administrator|User> [force]
!moduser <handle> autologin <on|off>
!moduser <handle> fortniteid <id>

The role branch requires the caller to outrank both the current and requested role. The handler displays an Owner force confirmation but still applies its strict hierarchy comparison; force is not a privilege bypass or a supported ownership-transfer procedure. autologin changes hostmask-based account behaviour; fortniteid stores the external player identifier. There are no arbitrary column or password fields.

pass

Set first password, or change existing password with old password verification.

Access: private. IRC surfaces: private message.

/msg BotNick pass <newpass>
/msg BotNick pass <oldpass> <newpass>

Private message only. The one-argument form sets a first password; changing an existing password verifies the old one. Passwords are exact strings; do not quote or publish them in a channel transcript.

register

Register the first owner account.

Access: private. IRC surfaces: private message.

/msg BotNick register <owner> <password>

Private message only: /msg BotNick register YourHandle YourPassword. Creates the first Owner and channel level 500 on the configured console. It is bootstrap, not unrestricted registration of additional Owners. Use the actual bot nickname.

useradd

Alias of adduser; the same options, defaults and checks apply.

Access: Master+. IRC surfaces: channel + private message.

!useradd <handle> [-n] <hostmask> [Owner|Master|Administrator|User]
!useradd -n <handle> <hostmask> [Owner|Master|Administrator|User]

userinfo

Show information about a user.

Access: Administrator+. IRC surfaces: channel + private message.

!userinfo <handle>

The lookup is the Mediabot account handle (username), not an arbitrary live IRC nick.

users

List or count known users.

Access: Master+. IRC surfaces: channel + private message.

!users

No command parameters. Channel-scoped results refer to the invocation channel.

verify

Verify your authentication or account state.

Access: Administrator+. IRC surfaces: channel + private message.

!verify <nick>

Triggers WHOIS/existence verification for the required live nick. This does not log the caller into Mediabot.

whoami

Show who the bot thinks you are.

Access: public. IRC surfaces: channel + private message.

!whoami

Shows your Mediabot handle, role, password/login/autologin state and bounded hostmask list. Mediabot authentication is separate from NickServ, ChanServ and IRC operator mode.

xlogin

Authenticate or check X login integration when configured.

Access: public. IRC surfaces: channel.

!xlogin <account>

Network-specific X integration. Supply the configured X account; it is not Libera NickServ registration or Mediabot login. Availability depends on network type and credentials.
