Using the command reference

This wiki is checked against 3.6dev-20261006_084503. The catalogue has 249 distinct built-in names and aliases, with 242 channel registrations and 97 private-message registrations. Many names are registered on both surfaces; these counts are not added together.

Read the notation

Notation Meaning
<value> Required argument; replace it and omit angle brackets.
[value] Optional argument; omit square brackets.
a|b within a parameter Choose one literal value.
... Remaining words, not a literal ellipsis.
A standalone | in poll/quote/responder syntax A literal separator typed into IRC.
#channel Target channel, not necessarily the channel where you issue the command.
<handle> Mediabot database account name.
<nick> IRC nickname. It may differ from the account handle.
seconds / minutes / bytes Units are command-specific; they are never interchangeable.

IRC is not a shell: do not wrap multiword RSS feed names, prompts or templates in shell quotes unless the content itself should contain quotes. Parameters are parsed in the order shown, except the explicitly order-independent AI summary/leaderboard options.

Three separate command surfaces

!version
/msg BotNick login YourHandle YourPassword
.status

The first is a channel command with the configured trigger. The second is an IRC private message with no ! prefix. The third is typed inside an authenticated Partyline session, not on IRC. rss is channel-only, including console-channel targeting; randomquote also has a PM registration. Public !topic is absent from this built-in catalogue; /msg BotNick topic ... is present.

Permission and availability

Global roles and numeric channel levels are separate scales. Logged-in Administrator/Master/Owner checks cannot be replaced by an IRC @ prefix. An Owner satisfies weaker global roles, but command-specific target/hierarchy/feature checks still apply.

Provider credentials, chansets, known channels, connection state, flood limits and plugin rollout policies may prevent an otherwise permitted command. !features, !whoami and !help <command> help diagnose the running instance. Help metadata is occasionally shorter or inaccurate; the reviewed parameter page explains those differences.

Dynamic PUBLIC_COMMANDS, runtime aliases and plugin commands depend on instance data. Inspect them with showcommands, searchcmd, showcmd and Partyline .plugins; a static list cannot invent their names or parameters. See plugin administration and API development.
