Visual presets and saving changes

Active Visual Preset

The editable dropdown lists every alternative preset except the current one. Entered text does not filter alternatives out of the open list. An exact valid preset name can select that preset; typing an unknown name does not create a new preset.

Selecting a preset stages its visual choices. Use the main Save Changes button to save and reload them. Catalogue and convenience controls are independent of visual presets.

Built-in presets

Preset Result
All Matcha Visuals Enables all available optional Matcha textures, GUI groups and ordinary terminology choices. This is the default visual setup.
Vanilla Visuals + Matcha Custom Content Disables optional replacements for ordinary Minecraft content while retaining the assets and names custom Matcha content requires.

Neither preset disables Matcha gameplay or converts custom items into ordinary vanilla items. Required content stays supported. From 1.4.2, required status-message translations and glyphs are available even before world detection and even when optional visuals are Vanilla.

Creating a personal preset

Use Create New Preset directly below the dropdown, enter a non-empty name, and create it from the current visual selections. Give it a descriptive name such as "Vanilla mobs, Matcha menus". The preset records visual choices rather than a copy of Matcha's textures or gameplay data.

Apply Changes to Preset

This action becomes available when the current visual choices differ from the active preset. For a personal preset, it replaces that preset's saved visual selections after the overwrite prompt. The prompt's Do not show this warning again choice controls later overwrite confirmations. Built-in presets cannot be overwritten: create a personal copy instead.

Saving a preset and applying resource changes are distinct actions. Finish with the root Save Changes button when you want Minecraft's visuals to update.

Manage Personal Presets

Select a saved preset row to enable Rename, Delete, or Export. Import Preset is available without selecting a row.

  • Rename: changes the personal preset's name. Built-in presets cannot be renamed.
  • Delete: removes the saved personal preset after confirmation. Keep an exported copy if you want a backup.
  • Import Preset: reads a .matcha-visuals.json file, stores it locally and selects its choices. Finish saving the root settings to apply visuals.
  • Export: writes a readable .matcha-visuals.json file you can back up or share. The export contains visual settings, not textures, worlds or server data.

Use the in-game file picker to choose a folder and filename. Invalid or unsupported preset files are rejected rather than used as executable content. A preset does not supply support for an otherwise unsupported Matcha version.

Save Choices, Save Changes and Cancel

Save Choices in a texture browser returns its choices to the main Visuals screen without immediately reloading resources. Make changes in several browsers, then use Save Changes on the main screen to apply them together. Cancel or Escape in a texture browser discards that browser's unsaved changes.

User-selected resource packs have higher priority than the Companion's optional layers. If your saved choices appear ineffective, check the resource-pack list before repeatedly changing presets.
