Pocket Curator v1.1.2
Which file do I want?
- If you CAN connect your handheld to the Internet: the only file you need is the
PocketCurator.Installer.shlisted below. Place it in your roms/ports folder and run it from within Emulation Station's Ports games list. Pocket Curator's installer will connect here and download and install the package for you. (see the repo page's README for more on how to install) - If you CANNOT connect your device to the Internet: you want the .zip file below. The
PocketCurator.Installer.shwill NOT work without an Internet connection. To install without Internet, unzip the .zip file to your roms/ports folder on your SD card. (see the repo page's README for more on how to install) - If you have Pocket Curator v0.62.0 or v0.62.1 installed: just open Settings -> Check For Updates inside Pocket Curator.
- If you have a version previous to v0.62.0 installed: delete it! (Delete
Pocket Curator.sh,PocketCuratorMetadataInstall.sh, and thepocketcuratorfolder from your roms/ports folder on your SD card) - Ignore the "Source code" links below, unless you like reading code.
What's new since v1.0.0
FEATURES:
Fetching / copying
- Region-aware destinations — copied games land in the folder your device actually uses for that console (genesis or megadrive, tg16 or pcengine, etc.), decided by what's already there or your region. Folder names with spaces, hyphens, or underscores now match too.
- Fresh-device path — a system with no games appears the instant you copy games into it, no restart, so a handheld with zero ROMs can connect to WebDAV and pull its first games.
- Select All — the Start button marks or clears every game in the list, on both the delete and fetch screens.
- Live transfer rate + a progress strip that follows you — progress bar for the fetch process at the bottom of the screen persists, transfer speed shows on the status line
Updates / install
- Dual-channel update picker — Check For Updates looks at both stable and pre-release and lets you pick which to install; Press Y to install pre-releases, Press A to install stable.
- Installer ships with every release and installs the newest of either channel
UI / personalization
- Restyle and re-order the button hints / help text.
- Font Color, Highlight Color, and Swap Games List Side — color swatches plus a left/right layout mirror.
- Missing-ROM report — opening a system whose gamelist.xml lists ROMs that aren't on the card now tells you and points you to EmulationStation's "Clean Gamelist & Remove Unused Media" function to clean it up.
- Refreshed splash, screenshots, and preview video.
BUG FIXES:
Fetching from WebDAV
- Fixed a problem with dArkOS and confusion between SNES and SuperFami routing to the wrong folder.
- When no fetch destination can be worked out automatically, you are asked to pick a folder under roms/ instead of the copy being refused.
- More reliable EmulationStation config discovery on Batocera / Knulli.
Deletion & the gamelist
- Deleting a ROM now also prunes its gamelist.xml entry — previously the entry lingered and the system's count read too high.
- Batch delete shows live progress, and a game that fails to delete stays listed and is reported instead of silently vanishing and reappearing on next launch.
- Gamelist entries are written tab-indented like ES, not as one unreadable line.
Counts & paging
- System game counts refresh after deletes/copies, and wait for delele/fetch operations to complete.
- L1/R1 paging no longer jumps too far — it uses the real number of visible rows — and the highlight lands at the leading edge of travel.
Input & display
- Fixed doubled controller input on Knulli, dArkOS, and Batocera.
- Network lookups resolve IPv4-only, ending a ~15s stall on some firmwares.
- The on-screen keyboard now wraps around.
Fetch reliability (earlier in the line)
- Critical: fetched games were landing in Pocket Curator's own folder on Batocera/Knulli — now resolved to the correct absolute roms folder.
- Ghost and phantom systems (Batocera stock entries with no ROMs, single-game port "systems") no longer show as separate systems.
- Theme logos matched to what your ES actually shows (not perfect, but liveable).
- Runaway auto-scaling font fixed; fetch preview clipping fixed.
Smaller fixes
- Empty fresh device: Y now opens the WebDAV flow even with no systems installed.
- Quit screen tells you when ES will refresh after exit.
- Marked and already-present rows stay dimmed even under the selection cursor, and a delete mark shows a red X.
- Restored Status dialog rows, fixed fetch-description scroll clipping, dArkOS exit garbage text, and double EmulationStation refresh.
Pocket Curator v1.0.39
(see the repo page's README for more on how to install) - If you have an old version Pocket Curator (v1.0.0 or prior), copy
PocketCurator.Installer.shto your handheld's ports folder and run it. You'll get the latest version installed. (Those older versions don't have the newer robust updater built-in.) - Ignore the "Source code" links below, unless you like reading code.
What's new
The installer now installs the newest release — whether that's a stable release or a pre-release.
Pocket Curator v1.0.37
Changes:
- Releases no longer ship precompiled Python bytecode, improving update consistency, and fixing an update loop.
- Improved update verification.
- Updated Pocket Curator metadata on each firmware. Including notification on exiting if Emulation Station will need restarted/gamelist.xml refreshed.
- On-screen keyboard wraps around.
- Network name lookups now resolve IPv4 only, removing issues where no IPv6 resolution was returned in time.
- Changes to the built-in updater allowing users to choose between stable and pre releases.
- Improved folder determination for fetched games (from WebDAV server). No prompts or having to select folders; the games simply go where they belong.
- Improved handling for handhelds without any ROMs (yet). Press Y to go to your WebDAV server and fetch them!
- Added Select All function (press Start) on both Delete and Fetch screens.
- Fixed issue with game counts being incorrect. Now warns if ROMs listed in the gamelist.xml are missing and refers user to Emulation Station's cleanup routine.
- Fixed PgUp/PgDn behavior to advance by 1 screen's worth of games in the list.
- Game counts on System Selection screen now update with changes (deletions & fetches)
- Fixed gamelist.xml formatting.
- Fixed a problem with large batches of deletions. If you exited quickly while the delete is still processing, it would fail to finish. Pocket Curator waits for an in-progress WebDAV copy or batch of deletions to finish before exiting, so a ROM can't be left half-written or batch partially deleted.
- Updates to the log filenames, including timestamps and keeping most recent 10 logs.
Pocket Curator v1.0.22
Fix: on a device with no systems containing ROMs yet, the system screen was empty and pressing Y did nothing — leaving no way to reach a WebDAV server to copy ROMs onto the device in the first place. Y now opens the WebDAV connection flow even when nothing is installed, so a fresh handheld can pull its first games over the network. The empty screen now points this out.
Internal: removed dead code, fixed the launcher's AmberELEC SDL preload path, and made the fetch free-space check account for per-card destinations on multi-SD setups. No behavioral change on devices that already had ROMs.
Pocket Curator v1.0.0
Pocket Curator v1.0.0 — first stable release.
!!BIG DEVELOPMENT!!
- WebDAV support has been added! You can connect to a webDAV server and download ROMs at full HTTP speeds. (as fast as your poor little micro SD card can write them!)
AmberELEC is back. Recent development has made AmberELEC a possibility again, including working WebDAV support.
Highlights since v0.62.2
- Fetch from WebDAV — press Y on a system to browse a WebDAV server (saved, LAN-scanned, or entered by address), mark games just like marking deletions, and copy the marked games with scraped files (scrapings) and full gamelist metadata injected.
- Fetch GUI mirrors the deletion GUI — shared headers, hold-A mass-mark, wrapping top and bottom, metadata displayed, previews, autoscrolling descriptions, overwrite/skip dupes, sizes + free-space, a session queue with progress bar
- Smart ROMs Folder Selection Pocket Curator figures out where the copied ROMs are supposed to go and puts them there. No scrolling through the huge system list.
- In-App Updater — Update Pocket Curator right from the Settings menu
See CHANGELOG.md for the full detail across v0.62.3–v0.64.5.
Pocket Curator v0.62.2 (beta)
What's new
- AMBERELEC IS NOT WORKING I'm very sorry to announce that I was wrong. AmberELEC is NOT working and probably never will.
- One-press updates. Check For Updates now opens a Software Update dialog that does everything itself: it checks, and if a new version exists it downloads, verifies, and prepares it with no further button presses - then tells you to restart Pocket Curator to finish. You can close the dialog mid-download; it keeps going.
- The log now tells the story. Every update step is logged, and new startup timing lines show exactly how long each phase of launch took - so "it sat at the splash screen for a minute" becomes "the ROM scan of 14,000 games took 58 seconds," which is something we can actually act on.
- Status dialog fits the screen. Long lines (like the version row) now wrap instead of running off the panel.
Pocket Curator v0.62.1 (beta)
(see the repo page's README for more on how to install) - If you have a version of Pocket Curator previous to v0.62.0 installed: delete it! (Delete
Pocket Curator.sh,PocketCuratorMetadataInstall.sh, and thepocketcuratorfolder from your roms/ports folder on your SD card) - Ignore the "Source code" links below, unless you like reading code.
What's new
- Tidier Settings. Check For Updates now sits at the top, and a new Status dialog gathers the install's vital signs in one place: version (with a latest-version indicator), detected OS, ROMs location, active theme, internet status, and whether the device clock is synced well enough for secure connections. Items that need the internet say "No Internet Connection" when you're offline.
- One entry in your Ports menu, not two. The separate "PocketCuratorMetadataInstall" entry is gone — its job moved inside Pocket Curator. Fresh installs are registered by the installer, manual zip installs register themselves the first time you run and exit the app, and updating from an older release cleans the leftover entry up.
Pocket Curator v0.62.0 (beta)
(see the repo page's README for more on how to install) - If you have a previous version of Pocket Curator installed, delete it (both the
Pocket Curator.shfile and thepocketcuratorfolder from your roms/ports folder on your SD card) - Ignore the "Source code" links below, unless you like reading code.
What's new
This release simplifies the install process and adds an updater to Pocket Curator.
- One-file installer. One small file in your ports folder, one launch, done — it fetches the latest release over WiFi, verifies it, installs it, and refreshes EmulationStation so Pocket Curator shows up immediately, icon and all. It always installs the latest release, so a copy you downloaded months ago still installs the current version. Re-running it repairs an install without touching your settings.
- Built-in updates. Settings → Check for updates finds new releases, downloads with a live progress display, verifies the download (SHA256 and zip integrity), and installs itself on the next launch — your settings always survive. Designed to be power-cut-safe: an interrupted update simply resumes its install on the following launch. Releases now ship a
.sha256checksum that the installer and updater verify downloads against.
Both features require an Internet connection! Both features require your device's clock to be set properly.
Pocket Curator v0.61.13 (beta)
Highlights
- dArkOS support (R36S and friends): display works (kmsdrm via system SDL), deletions and metadata writes work, and the games list now refreshes automatically on exit -- no reboot, no 90-second freeze, no hang. The exit refresh restarts the EmulationStation service safely after the app has released the display.
Details
- ArkOS-family exit refresh runs as a systemd transient unit outside the ES cgroup, with a watchdog that force-completes a stalled stop in ~5s instead of systemd's 90s default timeout.
- Metadata installer now restarts ES on ArkOS-family (no reloadgames API there), so Pocket Curator's icon/description/video appear.
- Cleaner exit on ArkOS-family: console reset before the "Refreshing your games list..." message, and stray
Killedprocess notices silenced. - ROCKNIX and Knulli behavior unchanged.
See CHANGELOG.md for the full history, including the v0.61.10-v0.61.12 test builds this release folds in.
v0.61.9 - First Public Release!
This is the first public release of Pocket Curator. Please be gentle! ;)
Pocket Curator v0.61.9 (beta)
On-device ROM and scraped-media cleanup for retro handhelds running ROCKNIX + Knulli.
This build
- Added a controller diagnostic to the launch log: it prints the SDL
face-button mapping and input device names gptokeyb is using, so a misbehaving
unit can be compared against a working one. - Keeps the v0.61.8 logo fix (Pulse and other themes that store logos in
art/
now resolve correctly).
