What is Guacamole?

Guacamole is an HTML5 web application that provides access to desktop environments using remote desktop protocols (such as VNC or RDP).

Why am I doing this?

I need a Guacamole server as a jumphost for an internal virtual lab. The lab infrastructure is hosted on a Proxmox VE. I could stand up a VM and install Apache, Tomcat and Guacamole from scratch, but I thought it would be cool to do this as a reusable Turnkey Linux project.

In hindsight, the project was probably a bit more complicated than appropriate for a newcomer, but "nothing worth doing comes easy"!

Mea Culpa

I have tried to keep this as consistent as I can with Turnkey practices as I understand them. That includes reusing or adapting as many pre-existing components from the TurnKeyLinux repositories as I can (especially common and inithooks).

As I said, I'm a newcomer to TKLDev, so any constructive feedback is welcome.

What's in the box

The product is based on the Tomcat on Apache appliance (v18.0).

Guacamole Version

Guacamole v1.6.0

Extensions

The following extensions are included:

  • guacamole-auth-ldap
  • guacamole-auth-sso-openid
  • guacamole-history-reporting-storage

These are the ones I think I need for my purposes, if any potential supporters need other extensions, I'm open to suggestions!

Current Status

  • The iso builds cleanly
  • The iso will install in a Proxmox VM, runs through first boot, and displays a login page via the web server.

Bugs

None currently known. If you find one, please create an issue.

Work in Progress

  • I am adding a utility to create a user, with password, in the database. This will be available during first boot. It's based on mysqlconf.py, but heavily rewritten, as I struggle to speak such archaic Python :-)
