Multiplayer

On a server, every part remembers the account that placed it. One sandbox setting decides who else may take it.

Who may pick up solar parts

Sandbox › Off-Grid › Who may pick up solar parts:

  1. Anyone
  2. Anyone carrying a screwdriver
  3. Whoever placed it, their safehouse, admins and moderators (default)

What the lock covers

Locked: picking a part up, rotating it (the owner stays the same), and taking batteries out of a rack (setting 3 only).

Open to anyone nearby: switching it on or off, running or cutting cables, the monitor, Info and almanac, putting batteries in, cleaning, sweeping and repairing.

Inside a safehouse you don't belong to, the game hides the whole Off-Grid menu.

Ownership rules

  • Account, not character. A new character on the same account still owns everything you placed.
  • Placing is owning. Whoever puts a part down owns it. If an admin moves your panel, the admin owns it after that.
  • No owner. A part with no recorded owner can be picked up by anyone.
  • Running controller. A running controller can't be picked up or rotated. Switch it off first.
  • Singleplayer. No owners at all: every character can take every part.

For server owners

  • Update the server and every player to the same version together.
  • Books, parts and yard rigs come from the server.
  • Reporting a bug from a server? Send the server's console log too (see Troubleshooting).
