Quick solutions for common questions and issues.
| Symptom | Likely Cause | Suggested Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Beam code didn't connect or timed out | WiFi is off or the 15-minute code expired | Ensure your device is connected to WiFi before beaming. If a code expired, generate a new one on the sending device. |
| Beam code not found | Code was typed incorrectly | Double-check the 6-character code. Codes are case-insensitive and you don't need to worry about spaces or hyphens. |
| Backup doesn't appear in the list | The file is stored in a different directory | Tap Browse Another Folder to pick the file directly, or update your Backup Storage Folder in Settings. |
| Backup creation takes a long time | Dictionaries or book reading progress are very large | In the Create Backup dialog, uncheck Dictionaries & OCR or Book Progress & Notes to keep your backup fast and small. |
| Low storage warning | Device storage is almost full | Delete older backups in Manage Backups, set a lower retention limit (e.g., 3 backups) in Settings, or use an external SD card. |
| Accidentally restored the wrong backup | Selected the wrong archive | Open the menu and tap Undo Last Restore to immediately revert your device to its previous state. |
| Plugin does not appear in Tools menu | Nested folder during unzipping | Ensure the folder is placed as koreader/plugins/backup.koplugin (and not nested as backup.koplugin/backup.koplugin/), then restart KOReader. |
| Restored from a different e-reader brand | Moving between Kindle, Kobo, or Android | Leave Cross-Device Safety Protection enabled in Settings (on by default). Screen resolution and device-specific hardware values are adjusted automatically. |
| Profiles or QuickMenu gestures behave differently after restore | Target device has different hardware (e.g. no physical buttons, or no warm light) | Re-bind your QuickMenu in Settings → Taps and gestures → Gesture manager to a touch gesture if moving from a button device, or adjust light actions in Profiles for devices without warm light hardware. |
