Managing Backups & Safety Undo

The Manage Backups window gives you complete control over your saved backup files, while the built-in Undo Last Restore feature ensures you can always experiment with confidence.

The Manage Backups Screen

Open KOReader → Tools → Device Backup & Restore → Manage Backups.

Here, you'll see a clean list of all backups currently stored on your device, showing:

  • Backup creation date and time
  • Total file size
  • Custom backup name or label

Actions on Any Backup

Tap any backup in the list to reveal available options:

  • Restore: Inspect the archive and apply its contents to your device.
  • Beam to Device: Wirelessly send this backup to another e-reader using a temporary 6-character code.
  • View Details: Open the archive summary sheet to see which components are included, file counts, and the original device model.
  • Delete: Permanently delete the backup to free up storage space.

You can also tap Browse Another Folder to view backups located elsewhere on your device or SD card.

The Safety Net: "Undo Last Restore"

Have you ever restored a configuration only to realize you liked your old setup better? Or accidentally restored the wrong file?

Device Backup & Restore has a built-in safety net:

  1. Automatic Safety Snapshot: Whenever you restore any backup, the plugin automatically creates a full safety snapshot of your current settings right before applying the changes.
  2. One-Tap Undo: If anything isn't quite the way you want it, simply go to:
    • Tools → Device Backup & Restore → Undo Last Restore
  3. Instant Recovery: KOReader immediately reinstates your previous settings and prompts you to restart.

Note: Safety rollback snapshots are permanently protected and are never automatically deleted by rolling retention rules.

Managing Device Storage

Backup files are designed to be lightweight:

  • A standard backup (containing settings, user plugins, tweaks, and custom fonts) is typically only 5 MB to 15 MB.
  • If you include Book Progress & Notes or large Dictionaries, backups will be larger depending on your library size.
  • You can configure the plugin to keep only the newest $N$ backups (default: 5) in Settings, so your e-reader's storage space never fills up unexpectedly.
