Release list
CADaddy 0.7.9
CADaddy 0.7.9: updates that work, IME and vertical text, the clipboard with other programs, our own DWG reader and writer, Sheet Set Manager II, everyday AutoCAD commands, and a long list of fixes from testing.
On 0.7.7 or 0.7.8? Please download this version by hand, once. Those versions don't offer updates with default settings, and on Windows their installer step never ran. 0.7.9 fixes both, so from here on CADaddy updates itself again.

Updates and security
- Updates work again: the update card shows with default settings, Windows installs the update on Restart Now, and the card sits above the support banner. Updater messages are in your interface language.
- Updates are signed (SHA256SUMS + signature); tampered, truncated, unsigned, wrong-key and downgrade releases are refused and leave your copy untouched.
- Image, font and hyperlink paths can't point at other computers' shares (no password-hash leaks on Windows); disguised links to programs ask first.
- Agents can't loosen trusted locations, the control-port token or their own confirmations; agent batches go through the same safety rails; MCP requests are size-limited.
Drawing and editing
- Typing Chinese, Japanese and Korean at the command line and in the MTEXT editor, with the candidate window at the caret; vertical text styles drawn and plotted.
- The clipboard with other programs: Paste Special (as objects, picture or text), copies carry a picture for documents and email, and pasting another program's picture or text works.
- Everyday commands: OOPS, MULTIPLE, COPYTOLAYER, CUTBASE, DIMCENTER, SOLID, FILL, QTEXT, VPMAX/VPMIN, FILTER, ATTREDEF, DXFIN/DXFOUT, UCSMAN, SETBYLAYER, XPLODE, VPSYNC, ATTIPEDIT; Express Tools IV; MEASUREGEOM Quick.
- BREAK opens closed polylines, ellipses and splines, and a command that can't act no longer traps what you type next.
- Undo: one undo undoes an agent's whole batch; a refused command leaves no empty step; redo keeps associative dimensions.
- 2D drawings from solids (SOLVIEW, SOLDRAW, SOLPROF); 3D Building from Plan puts doors in their openings; ROOMS follows the walls and room tags.
- A hint when new dimensions or text would be too small to read at the drawing's scale.
Files
- CADaddy's own DWG reader and writer (R2000 to R2018) alongside the existing one, checked against independent readers; complex linetypes, block descriptions and non-English text now survive DWG 2000/2004.
- Raster export (PNGOUT, JPGOUT, TIFOUT, BMPOUT) and raster plot devices; IFC export with stacked storeys, openings and stable IDs.
- Sheet Set Manager II: docked, with custom properties, page setup override, views, callouts and fields; new sheet sets save as
.sheetset.json; new layouts get a viewport fitted to the drawing. - The Release 12 and multileader save notes now say what actually happened; Save As no longer writes your command history next to exported files.
- Drawing properties (DWGPROPS) and script tools (SCRIPTCALL, RSCRIPT, DELAY, RESUME); damaged-DWG recovery (RECOVERALL).
Interface
- Count palette from Tools ▸ Count; MARKUPIMPORT on the Insert ribbon; prompt defaults in your drawing's units; palettes open clear of the ribbon.
- The first window fits high-DPI screens; drawings open framed above the command line; menu symbols show on Windows.
- Touch taps pick and place points; Select Color keeps a typed hex value.
- Interface in Traditional Chinese, Polish, Hungarian and Turkish.

CADaddy-Linux.AppImage(any 64-bit distro from 2022 on) orCADaddy-Linux.deb(Ubuntu 22.04+, Debian 12+) - Claude Desktop extension:
CADaddy.mcpb
Installed copies of 0.7.6 offer this update on their own.
3D and walkthroughs
- 3D solids: primitives, extrude/revolve/sweep/loft, booleans, fillets, SOLIDEDIT, SLICE; sections and elevations; 3D move/rotate/scale/align/mirror/array with gizmos, 3D snaps and dynamic UCS.

- 3D exchange: glTF/GLB, OBJ and STL export and import; point clouds (LAS, PTS, XYZ).
Plans to model
- A building spec kept in the drawing, drafted from the plan alone (
bspec.draft) or from PDF plans, reviewed in the Plans to Model palette, then built: walls with openings, stairs/ramps/railings, exteriors and roofs from elevations, ceilings from reflected ceiling plans, rooms as 3D spaces, MEP runs with a clash report, structural grids, door and window schedules, and furniture from the plan's 2D symbols (FURNISH). - model.revise rebuilds after the plans change and keeps hand edits.

- Markups from reviewed PDFs (MARKUPIMPORT) as revision clouds and text; Excel data links and TABLEEXPORT to .xlsx; searchable text in PDF plots.
- eTransmit; edit xrefs in place; plot from the command line.
Drafting
- Fields, UCS, spell check, hyperlinks, dynamic block authoring, BLOCKIFY, Express Tools III and the text tools (SCALETEXT, TJUST, TORIENT, TEXTMASK, TCIRCLE, TEXTFIT, TFRAME, RTEXT, ATTOUT/ATTIN).
- Find and Replace; DesignCenter; Blocks palette and tool palettes; Undo History and Command History palettes.
- Tab cycles snap points; tracking shows every acquired point; command-line AutoComplete with named objects.
- CAD standards (STANDARDS, CHECKSTANDARDS, LAYTRANS); Parameters Manager and constraint settings.
- AutoLISP vlax-curve and vl- functions; about 80 more system variables.
Interface
- Accessibility: every control is named for screen readers, ribbon key tips, a High Contrast theme and an interface size setting.
- Workspaces and the navigation bar; an alias and shortcut editor; floating palettes on other monitors.
- Right-to-left interface for Arabic; Japanese; engine messages in every interface language.
- Report a Problem builds a diagnostics bundle on your computer (nothing is sent).
Fixes
- Saving DWG/DXF no longer gives two objects the same handle.
- Reopening a drawing that is already open moves it to the top of Recent Files.
- Agents can't press Enter inside a command you started.
- Many tester-reported fixes across commands, dialogs and palettes.

CADaddy 0.7.6
CADaddy 0.7.6: quantity takeoff, XCLIP, much faster work on dense hatched sheets, and CADaddy is now source-available.
Downloads
- Windows 10/11:
CADaddy-Windows.msi - Mac (macOS 11+, Apple chip and Intel):
CADaddy-Mac.dmg - Linux:
CADaddy-Linux.AppImage(any 64-bit distro from 2022 on) orCADaddy-Linux.deb(Ubuntu 22.04+, Debian 12+) - Claude Desktop extension:
CADaddy.mcpb
Installed copies of 0.7.5 offer this update on their own.
New
- Quantity takeoff (TAKEOFF, Tools ▸ Inquiry ▸ Quantity Takeoff): lengths or areas by layer (wildcards allowed), with a waste factor, in feet or metres from the drawing's units. Blocks, arrays and xrefs are counted at their scale, and clipped references count only what they show. Output as CSV or a table in the drawing.
- XCLIP (Modify ▸ Clip ▸ Xref): clip block references and xrefs to a rectangle, polygon or polyline, inside or outside, with the frame shown per XCLIPFRAME. Clips are saved in DXF and DWG.
- Symbols land on trade layers (power, lighting, equipment, communications, fire alarm) with their schedule fields hidden, and remember the last values you typed.
- -DIMSTYLE and -STYLE at the command line; WBLOCK and MEASUREGEOM prompt for what they need; menu items that used to demand parameters now prompt.
- More AutoLISP: attributes are entities (ENTNEXT, NENTSELP), TBLOBJNAME, REGAPP and xdata (
entgetwith application names, ssgetfilters), angles in radians, and DWGNAME/DWGPREFIX/DWGTITLED.
Faster
- Hatches with thousands of islands no longer slow everything down: on a dense civil sheet, a pick went from up to 6.5 s to about 0.1 s, and undo from 4 s to under 0.4 s.
- PEDIT Multiple Join works in linear time (thousands of segments in a moment), and picking a point inside a dense area to hatch is quicker.
- Selecting ALL is linear: moving 200,000 objects takes about a second.
Safer with your files
- Opening a drawing whose current linetype or text, dimension, multileader, table or multiline style doesn't exist resets it to ByLayer or Standard (with a note), instead of giving every new object a name the file lacks.
- Closing a drawing gives back its memory: cached selection indexes and decoded images of closed drawings are released.
- Relative image paths are looked up only beside the drawing that uses them, so two jobs with the same image names never show each other's pictures.
- Crash recovery offers a crashed session's files at once, without taking files from a copy of CADaddy that is still running.
- Dimensions inside blocks keep their geometry when saved; groups are saved with their member links.
- Enter pressed while the "save changes?" question is open no longer repeats the last command behind it.
Fixes
- The in-place multiline text editor keeps the keyboard (typing no longer replaced the text).
- Hatch boundaries on converted plans close where wall pieces overlap.
- ENTMOD keeps attributes and dimension associativity; Unicode escapes in text are decoded; FIND searches the decoded text.
- PDF import: markups stay on the page, and converted sheets take their dimension and text scale from the scale note.
- CEN snap from a circle's edge; fixed-height text styles skip TEXT's height prompt; -HATCH asks again for an unknown pattern.
Licence
CADaddy's source is now public under the Functional Source License (FSL-1.1-ALv2): free to use, study and modify for anything except a competing product, and each release becomes Apache-2.0 two years after it ships. It includes code from CADCraft (MIT OR Apache-2.0).

CADaddy 0.7.5
CADaddy 0.7.5: an electrical symbol library, editing multiline text in place, and a fix that kept text masks from being lost.
Downloads
- Windows 10/11:
CADaddy-Windows.msi - Mac (macOS 11+, Apple chip and Intel):
CADaddy-Mac.dmg - Linux:
CADaddy-Linux.AppImage(any 64-bit distro from 2022 on) orCADaddy-Linux.deb(Ubuntu 22.04+, Debian 12+) - Claude Desktop extension:
CADaddy.mcpb
New
- Automatic updates. From this version on, CADaddy checks once a day for a newer release. When one comes out, a small card offers to update; CADaddy downloads it, checks its SHA-256 fingerprint and installs it when you close the app (or right away with Restart Now). Help ▸ Check for Updates looks now, and Options ▸ Preferences turns the daily check off. Only the request for the latest version number goes out. On Linux this works with the AppImage; the .deb shows a download link.
- Electrical symbol library: 33 symbols drawn for CADaddy, in the Symbols palette next to plumbing.
- Devices placed at your drawing's scale: duplex, quad, GFCI, weatherproof, dedicated and 208/240 V receptacles, floor box, single-pole, 3-way, 4-way and dimmer switches, occupancy sensor.
- Lighting at real size: 2x4 and 2x2 troffers, downlight, wall sconce, strip light, exit sign, emergency light.
- Power: panelboard, disconnect, transformer, junction box, motor connection, home-run arrow.
- Low voltage and fire alarm: data, phone and TV outlets, smoke and heat detectors, horn/strobe, pull station, fire alarm control panel.
- Devices have circuit, panel and mounting-height fields; fixtures a type tag and circuit; panels a name and voltage. Hidden trade and type fields let counts and schedules total them.
- Edit multiline text in place: double-click a paragraph of text to edit it right in the drawing, with its formatting kept.
- New drawings start with a viewport on Layout1 and Layout2, as in AutoCAD, so plotting a layout no longer gives a blank page.
Safer with your files
- Saving a drawing to a file that's open in another tab is refused. Before, it overwrote that drawing's work.
- Background masks on multiline text are kept when you open and save a drawing.
- AUDIT no longer deletes zero-length lines (they're valid and plot as dots).
For estimating and takeoff
- Data Extraction counts blocks inside arrays and inside other blocks, so a panel schedule built from arrayed or nested devices adds up.
- Typed architectural distances take the dash form:
6-1/2",5'6-1/2". - AREA and LIST report areas as square inches and square feet in architectural units (
11520.0000 square in. (80.0000 square ft.)).
Fixes
- These commands now prompt when typed instead of reporting a missing value: COLOR, LWEIGHT, LTSCALE, LIMITS, BASE, FIND, GETVAR, LAYISO, LAYMCUR, LAYMCH, BREAKATPOINT. ABOUT, QUIT and EXIT work.
- PEDIT:
pedit m all y j 0joins lines into polylines, and selection words likeLwork at "Select polyline". - A keyword typed at a selection prompt wins over Last/Previous: COUNT's
Lis List. - Prompts no longer say "or or [...]".
- EXPLODE keeps layer 0 and ByBlock objects as defined, as AutoCAD does.
- Ortho and Polar tracking turn each other off.
- Turning off the current layer from a palette asks first.
- Command-line errors read as plain reasons.
- Stacked fractions no longer touch the number before them (
20'-0 ½"). - An xref that doesn't load says why, including to AI agents.
- The command-line tool is now named
cadaddy-cli, and its log filecadaddy.log. On Linux, settings live in~/.config/cadaddy. - The installers include the licence terms and third-party notices.

CADaddy 0.7.4
CADaddy 0.7.4: a plumbing symbol library, a Dimension Style Manager, and fixes from a second round of battle testing.

New
- Plumbing symbol library: 34 symbols drawn for CADaddy.
- Fixtures at real size: water closets, urinal, lavatories, sinks, mop sink, tub, shower, drinking fountain, water heater, floor drain, floor sink.
- Piping symbols placed at your drawing's scale: gate, ball, globe, butterfly and check valves, PRV, RPZ backflow preventer, cleanouts, union, cap, pipe up/down, meter, VTR, hammer arrestor, pump, hose bibb, flow arrow.
- Each has a tag or pipe size to fill in, plus hidden trade and type fields so counts and schedules can total fixtures by type.
- Symbols palette: pictures of every symbol, a search box and click-to-place (Window ▸ Symbols, or Insert ▸ Symbols). You can also type
SYMBOL. - Dimension Style Manager:
D,DIMSTYLEor Format ▸ Dimension Style. Unit format, precision, text, arrows, extension lines and overall scale.
Safer with your files
- Opening a drawing that's already open switches to its tab instead of opening a second copy.
- Saving over a DWG that CADaddy couldn't fully read now asks first, and keeps the original as a
.bak. Every save keeps the previous version as.bak. - A cut-off DXF opens with a warning instead of quietly missing objects.
- Read-only files aren't saved over, and saved files keep their permissions.
Fixes
- Architectural dimensions read
20'-0 1/2"(not20'-1/2"). - A dimension style comes back intact after DWG save and reopen.
- Viewport layer freezes are saved where other CAD programs read them.
- Mirrored blocks keep their attribute text readable.
- Typing works after clicking a drawing, layout or ribbon tab.
- Typing into a Properties field replaces its value.
- Properties no longer changes objects on locked layers.
- Esc closes dialogs.
- The AI connector's control port closes connections that send junk, and xref paths pointing to other computers are refused.

Opening other people's DWGs
- Layouts that came up blank or off the sheet now show their sheet where AutoCAD puts it, including layouts set to millimetres in an inch drawing.
- Viewports that had been panned in AutoCAD now show the right part of the model.
- Saving no longer resets the drawing's dimension settings (architectural units, text and arrow sizes, alternate units and more).
- Attributes on layer 0 stay on layer 0 when you save.
- A tab in multiline text no longer turns into "^I" after a DWG save.
Drafting the way AutoCAD users expect
- COPY: the Array option (with Fit) and Undo now work.
- FILLET and CHAMFER: a radius or distance too large for the lines is refused instead of producing odd geometry.
- TRIM: after choosing cutting edges, an object that doesn't cross them is kept, not erased.
- DIMCONTINUE / DIMBASELINE: Enter lets you pick another dimension to continue from; a second Enter ends.
- OFFSET keeps polyline widths.
- HATCH: boundaries follow door swings inside blocks, and text gets a clear margin.
-HATCHPattern asks for the scale and angle. - ATTDEF asks for text height and rotation.
- ORTHO typed at the command line asks ON/OFF (F8 still toggles).
- ERASE tells you when objects were skipped because they're on a locked layer.
- New commands: CHPROP, CHANGE, classic -ARRAY, LEADER at the command line, and QLEADER (LE).
Sturdier
- Opening something that isn't a regular file (or is huge) gives an error instead of eating memory.
- The AI connector (MCP) answers a garbled message with an error instead of shutting down.
CADaddy 0.7.2
CADaddy 0.7.2: exact curves
More accurate
- Snapping to where something crosses an ellipse or a spline (Intersection) now lands exactly on both, not on an approximation of the curve. The same goes for Nearest on ellipses and splines.
- TRIM and EXTEND against an ellipse or a spline end exactly on it.
- OFFSET of an ellipse gives a smooth spline (as AutoCAD does) instead of a polyline, and offsetting a spline stays true to the curve, within a millionth of its size.

Fixes
- Drawing a rectangle with Ortho on keeps the area you picked.
- For AI agents: the
opentool now says it opens DWG as well as DXF (it always could).
