feature image gray_v0.2

Overview

The feature-image-gray is devoted to RGB image grayscale conversion. The greyscale image is created using weighted linear combination of the three chromatic layers of the RGB image.

Usage

The feature-image-gray software expect the following parameters. Starting with the stream parameters :

--input -i

Path of the input RGB image.

--output -o

Path of the output grayscale image.

Linear combination parameters :

--red -r, --green -g, --blue -b

Weights of the chromatic layer. The sum of the three values
should be one.

If the weights are not in [0,1] with sum equal to one, capacity overflow are handled by OpenCV.

Demonstration

Considering the following image taken at Geneva using an Eyesis4Pi camera :

and considering the usual luminance weights for the layers combination, the following result is obtained :

Considering zero as red and green weights and one for the blue layer, the result is given by :

Setting to zero the weights of the red and blue channels gives the following image :

The linear combination weights can have any value. This allow to go a bit further than simple grayscale conversion when the process is well understood.

Compilation

The software binary can be build using its specific makefile by simply typing in its base directory :

$ make clean && make build [OPENMP=false]

The binary is placed in the local bin directory and is not copied in the main bin directory. To generate the documentation, use the command :

$ make clean-documentation && make documentation

To install or uninstall the binaries on the local computer, use the commands :

# make install
# make uninstall
