Creating a Recipe

Click New recipe from the Recipes page. You'll land on an import chooser — pick Write it myself to fill in the form by hand (see Importing a Recipe for the AI-assisted options).

What a recipe can hold

  • Title and description
  • Photos — upload one or more; click any photo to open it full-size. Rotate a photo after uploading if it's sideways, and pick which one is the cover photo shown on recipe cards.
  • Ingredients — each one has a quantity, a unit, and a name. Ingredient names autocomplete against ones already used elsewhere in the app, which helps keep spellings consistent (handy for Pantry mode matching later).
  • Steps — plain text instructions, one per step. You can attach a photo to an individual step, not just the recipe as a whole. If a step has a cook/prep time, LemmeCook mode can run a timer for it.
  • Tags — free-form chips (autocomplete against tags already in use). Tags are clickable everywhere they appear and power the tag-browse page.
  • Yield and nutrition — optional: servings/yield, calories, protein, carbs, and fat per serving. Nothing here is calculated automatically from the ingredients — it's manual, entered by whoever writes the recipe (or filled in by AI import).
  • Source URL — if the recipe came from somewhere on the web, the link is shown as an attribution on the recipe page.
  • Visibility — public or private (see Sharing and Visibility). You can set your own default for new recipes in Settings.

Editing and deleting

Only the recipe's owner can edit or delete it (admins can too, for moderation purposes — see Admin and Moderation). Deleting is permanent.

A note on nutrition and scaling

LemmeCook does not calculate nutrition from your ingredient list, and it doesn't do unit conversion. Yield/calories/macros are just numbers you (or an AI import) type in; ingredient scaling only multiplies quantities, it doesn't understand units.
