Backups

Create a backup before installing a new build, migrating from legacy Hayai, changing package variants, or making large library changes.
- J2K data is authoritative for manga, chapters, categories, history, tracking, downloads, and image-reader state.
- The Hayai backup payload carries data J2K cannot represent, including novel metadata, quotes, statistics, E-Hentai state, and source metadata.
Downloaded chapter files are not a substitute for a backup and may not be included in the backup archive. Copy downloads separately if they matter to you.
- Keep an untouched copy of the backup outside app storage.
- Restore into the intended Hayai build.
- Review the restore summary instead of ignoring conflicts.
- Check library counts, categories, progress, novel data, quotes, settings, and a sample of manga and novel chapters.
- Keep the previous installation and backup until the result is verified.
The legacy tachiyomi.db is an import source, not a complete Hayai backup. Hayai opens it read-only and uses hayai-j2k.db as its active database.
