Novel reader

Hayai's novel reader is rebuilt from Tsundoku behavior while keeping the J2K library and chapter model as the source of truth. It supports native and web rendering, reader preferences, text-to-speech, novel downloads, and EPUB export where the source provides the required content.

Selected text actions

Select text in a novel to use:

  • Save quote
  • Define
  • Google Translate
  • Web search

Dictionary and translation providers can be changed in the novel reader settings.

Signed-in browser sheet

Definitions and searches can open in a partial, resizable browser Custom Tab. It uses the browser's signed-in session, matching the quick-search behavior from older Hayai builds. When that is unavailable, Hayai can use its secure in-app web sheet for HTTPS pages and retained cookies.

Web results belong to their providers. Review the URL before entering credentials, and avoid signing in on pages you do not trust.

Reader troubleshooting

  • If selection actions do not appear, try selecting a smaller span of text and reopen the action menu.
  • If a provider opens the wrong language, review the translation and dictionary settings.
  • If the web renderer fails while native rendering works, report the source and chapter URL without authentication tokens.
  • Text-to-speech availability depends on the speech engines and voices installed on Android.
