Troubleshooting
- Start the game once and reach the hero screen, so there is a save to find.
- Use Menu → Open a save folder… and pick the folder yourself. For the Steam version that's
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Dungeons2\Saved\SaveGames. - On Linux or a Mac, see Linux and Mac.
Online heroes are kept on the game's servers, so the editor can't change them. Only offline heroes can be edited.
- Close the game before you save. The editor won't save while the game is running.
- If the game, the Xbox app or Steam asks which save to keep, keep this PC's. Choosing the cloud's save puts the old one back.
- The game's own cloud save (on by default) can also bring back an older copy of a hero, so check one small change in the game before making more.
- Versions before 1.2.3 could lose edits and progress. They wrote save files differently from the game (they kept the old cloud ID), so the Xbox app's cloud sync could bring the old data back. Edits then didn't show up in the game, and in one case the hero went back to a much older copy. 1.2.3 and every version since write saves the way the game does: update if yours is older.
The game can undo values it doesn't accept. Very high power or level is the usual cause: in testing, a save with level 100 and items at power 135 had its level put back to 1 and the items removed. Stay close to your level.
Close the game and use Menu → Restore a backup…: pick a backup and press Restore. The editor makes a backup every time it saves.
Restore writes a backup's saves over the ones in your save folder, so it can't bring back a hero you've since deleted in the game.
The .exe isn't code-signed, and antivirus tools sometimes flag programs packaged the way this one is. Safety and privacy explains why, and how to check that your download is the one GitHub built. You can also run the editor from its source: see Running from source.
A Unique made with an older version of the editor is without it. Open its card and press Add its own effect.
The editor only writes what it has seen in a real save. See Teach the editor, and Known limits for what's still missing.
Ask in Discussions. Say which version of the editor you have (it's in the window's title) and whether you play the Xbox app or the Steam version. Bugs go to Issues.
