SDG 3 — Good Health and Well-Being Tennis is a sport that demands both physical fitness and sharp mental focus, but one of the biggest barriers to improving is the lack of real-time feedback during practice. Most players, especially at the junior level, have no way of knowing whether their shot placement is actually improving session by session. Project Vector directly addresses this by giving players instant data on their accuracy and reaction time, turning every training session into something measurable. Over time, this kind of feedback helps athletes train smarter, reduce the risk of repetitive strain from practicing the wrong technique, and build healthier, more disciplined training habits.

SDG 4 — Quality Education What makes Project Vector interesting from an education standpoint is that it didn't come from a lab or a company — it came from a group of students who wanted to solve a real problem they personally experienced. Building this system required learning embedded systems, sensor calibration, LED control protocols, mechanical fabrication, and iterative design, none of which came from a textbook. The project is a living example of how hands-on, problem-driven making is a form of education that sticks in a way that classroom theory often doesn't. It also opens the door for this kind of interactive training technology to be used in school sports programmes where professional coaching isn't always available.

SDG 9 — Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure Sports technology is a growing industry, but most of the tools that exist — smart sensors, computer vision tracking systems, force plate analysis — are expensive, require specialist installation, and are completely out of reach for the average training facility or school. Project Vector was built almost entirely from off-the-shelf components costing a fraction of what commercial equivalents would cost, and the design is open enough that someone with basic making skills could replicate or improve it. That's the kind of grassroots innovation that SDG 9 is really about — not waiting for industry to solve a problem, but building something functional, affordable, and scalable from the ground up.
