v.1.6.5
v1.6.5.0
Four new destruction methods, bringing the total to 76.
New Methods
- Blobby — A pink, spotted kaiju escapes a secret lab beneath Croydon and rampages through London, hugging landmarks (Nelson's Column, the London Eye, the Gherkin, the O2, Tower Bridge) to bits out of sheer enthusiasm, before falling in love with a giant inflatable friend and bouncing off toward the Channel.
- Dumpster Fire — A burning bin rolls through the city — there and back — setting fire to everything in its wake, leaving the whole skyline ablaze. "This is fine."
- Barney — A wished-to-life plush dinosaur grows to skyscraper size and lays waste to Milton Keynes: spinning on roundabouts, imagining custard rain and a stadium-sized sandwich into existence, and getting talked down by a child before shrinking back into a plush toy.
- Blobby vs Barney — Clash of the Wobbly Titans. The two huggers meet, escalate into a citywide hug-fight (a tower squeezed oval, a stadium sat on, a giant blanket dropping over everything), get calmed down by a scientist with a megaphone, and retire together — with a lonely balloon on the horizon for the sequel hook.
Other Changes
- Updated
README.md's method table and local-setup instructions for the new 76-method lineup.
v1.5.9
v1.5.9
Eight new ways to destroy the city, bringing the total to 72 methods.
New Methods
- Cats and Dogs — no destruction here, it just, literally, rains cats and dogs
- Lube — everything gets an oily coating, and the skyline slides sideways to the ground
- Doctor Who — the TARDIS materializes and the Doctor deals with an array of classic baddies swarming the city
- Sports Direct — a mug tips over, and the city drowns in coffee
- Ricks — the Citadel of Ricks: thousands of Ricks build a society purely to govern themselves, which promptly develops class inequality, a police state, and an assassination plot
- Minecraft — the city is repainted in a blocky palette, a creeper sets off a stack of TNT in the town square (Steve wisely legs it), and the blast carves a crater into the skyline
- 🐘's Toothpaste — a science-fair experiment goes wrong, and the foam never stops rising, burying the first five floors of every building
- Idiocracy — two hibernation volunteers oversleep by 500 years and wake to a country buried in garbage, watered with Brawndo, and run by a wrestler-president
Fixes
loadMethodScript()now recovers to the picker if a method's script fails to load, instead of hanging silently forever with the picker hidden and nothing rendering — makes deploys with a missing file fail loudly instead of looking like the site froze
v1.5.0
v1.5.0
Changed
- Each of the 64 destruction methods now lives in its own file under a new
js/methods/directory, fetched on demand only the first time that method is actually launched — a plain page load, or browsing the method picker, no longer downloads any of them.index.php's inline script shrank from roughly 9,400 lines to about 2,300, keeping only the shared engine (city generation, colour palette, UI wiring) and a small loader/registry. - No in-page launch (a tile click, tapping anywhere on the intro screen, pressing any key, or RANDOM) rewrites the address bar anymore. Refreshing the page always returns to the method picker, the same as a fresh visit. A real shared link (
?m=<id>, opened directly) still auto-launches that method, and the Share button still builds a correct link from the current method regardless of what's in the address bar.
Fixed
- Along the way, fixed a handful of latent cross-method dependencies this refactor surfaced: a few small helpers (a demolition helper, a speech-bubble helper, an ion-cannon-style blast helper, a tank sprite, a helicopter-rotor sprite, and a bystander sprite) were each defined inside one method's code but quietly reused by several others — these now live in the shared core so no method needs another method's file loaded just to borrow one function.
- RANDOM, and then any other in-page launch, used to leave
?m=<id>in the address bar, so refreshing afterward replayed whatever was last launched (most visibly Nuke, since that's the intro screen's default) instead of returning to the picker.
v1.4.6
v1.4.6
Added
- A 🎱 RANDOM button next to RESET, in the top bar — resets the city and immediately launches a randomly-picked destruction method, matching RESET's styling.
v1.4.5
Added
- Four new destruction methods: Fart (a performer clears their throat, turns around, and a sound wave shatters windows across the city), Rubber (Robert, a telepathic car tire, rolls through town making heads explode with no further explanation offered), Tomatoes (Attack of the Killer Tomatoes — soldiers open fire, and it does absolutely nothing), and Cocaine Bear (a smuggler's plane drops its cargo, and whatever finds it first goes on a rampage).
- Every destruction method now has a real, directly-linkable URL (
?m=<id>) — visiting the site with a method's URL launches that method immediately, skipping the picker. Clicking a method tile updates the address bar to match, and RESET clears it back to the bare site URL. - A new floating share button in the bottom-right corner, offering to share either the currently-shown/running destruction or the bare site link, via the Web Share API with a clipboard-copy and prompt-dialog fallback.
Fixed
- Cocaine Bear's dropped duffel bags could sail past their trigger point without ever falling, because the trigger only fired inside a narrow window the plane could skip over on wide screens — it now triggers as soon as the plane reaches or passes the bag.
- Cocaine Bear's rampage phase could oscillate forever hunting for a bag, because its approach step wasn't clamped to the remaining distance — the classic overshoot-and-reverse loop. The step is now clamped so it can't overshoot.
Changed
- The Cocaine Bear menu tile's glow changed from a grey/cream text-shadow to a red one, for better contrast against its brown text.
v1.4.4
Added
- Four new destruction methods: Tim Curry (a victory lap through six of his best-known roles — Frank-N-Furter, Pennywise, the Lord of Darkness, Wadsworth, LeChuck, and the Concierge — ending in a building-toppling Time Warp), Wicked (the city sweeps to Emerald City green as flying monkeys chase the Wicked Witch across the sky, with Glinda watching serenely from her bubble), LTT (a routine GPU review goes wrong — the prototype drops from the WAN Show Tower, triggers a watercooling flood and a DATA LOSS meltdown, and gets spun into "a huge win" by a sponsor read that visibly holds the city together), and Melon Tusk (an Optimus-piloted Roadster self-deorbits into downtown, and a tech titan spins the resulting inferno as "nominal" from beside a Cybertruck that appeared from nowhere).
Fixed
- Wicked's flying-monkey chase sequence could take an impractically long time to reach its damage threshold, because damage was only applied to a single column per frame — widened to a damage radius around each actor and lowered the completion threshold.
- Melon Tusk's dialogue sequences could hang indefinitely on the last line, because the line-advance timer kept resetting to zero even after the final line was reached — the reset is now gated on there being a next line to advance to.
Changed
- The Wicked menu tile now renders in a split green/pink gradient instead of a solid colour.
v1.4.1
v1.4.1
Added
- Two new destruction methods: Duke Nukem 3D (an intro flight sequence, an alien shoot-down and crash landing, then a rampage through the wreckage) and Dolly (a non-destructive tribute — workers arrive at 9AM, clock in for a shift, and head home at 5PM, ending on "RIP Dolly Parton").
Fixed
- Duke Nukem 3D's crash/impact sequence could throw mid-animation and silently freeze the page, because a fractional blast radius was used directly as a grid-loop bound. The loop bound is now rounded while the blast shape itself stays smooth.
Changed
- The destruction statistics panel now lays out in two columns on desktop/tablet so the full method list fits without excess scrolling, and collapses back to a single column on phones.
v1.3.0
v1.3.0
New destruction methods
- 🃏 The Joker — a parade rolls out laughing-gas canisters through Gotham; the Batmobile shows up just a little too late.
- 💥 Suicide Squad — the Enchantress opens her sky machine, Task Force X cuts a path through the horde, and El Diablo finishes the job in fire.
- 🌀 Suicide Squad 2 — a decoy team is lost on the beach at Corto Maltese, the real team blows Jotunheim sky-high, and Starro's rampage ends in a swarm of rats.
- 🐒 12 Monkeys — the zoo raid is a red herring; Dr. Peters is patient zero, the virus empties the city, the animals reclaim the streets, and the loop closes at the airport.
Statistics
- Server-side stats now track unique visitors alongside total destructions and per-method counts. Visitors are identified by a salted SHA-256 hash of their IP — the raw address is never stored or sent to the client.
- Added a "Popular" filter to the method picker, ranking the top 20 most-used methods by real usage. It's now the default filter on page load, falling back to showing everything until stats have loaded (e.g. a fresh deploy with no data yet).
UI changes
- Moved the Statistics button to a new bar in the top-left corner, separate from the GitHub/version/RESET controls on the right.
- Removed the "Reset Stats" button from the Statistics panel (the main game's RESET button is unaffected).
Full Changelog: v1.2.0...v1.3.0
v1.2.0
v1.2.0
New attack modes
- 🥤 Kool-Aid — bursts through half the city ("OH YEAH!"), then shatters into flying glass shards and spilled punch
- 🧪 Gray Goo — self-replicating nanites spread outward from an epicenter and devour the entire skyline
- 🐢 Mine Turtle — everybody does the flop off the rooftops, one poor soul lands right on the turtle, and it goes off
- 🌿 Triffids — a green comet blinds the city, then venomous stalks rise up and lash buildings apart
- 🚙 Little Tikes — a kid steals the Cozy Coupe (monster-truck edition), Mum gives chase and gets run over, and it all ends in an end-over-end flip ("MUM look what i did!")
- 🛰️ Ion Cannon — a C&C-style orbital strike: targeting reticle, converging beam, direct hit
- 💀 Death Star — hovers above the city and unleashes its superlaser, wiping the whole thing out ("that's no moon")
- 🏳️🌈 LGBT Agenda — the odd one out: no destruction, just a pride parade sweeping through, rainbow-painted buildings, flags on every rooftop, and a very fabulous bar & grill
Fixed
- Neil the Seal actually looks like a seal now (long neck, proper body shape) instead of a vague blob
- Neil now stops and headbutts each building in turn until it collapses, instead of walking straight through everything
Changed
- Version bumped to v1.2.0
v1.1.0
v1.1.0
New attack modes
- 🚢 Titanic — the liner plows through the city, stops, and keels over onto its side, wedged in the ruins
- 🏗️ Mortal Engines — tower cranes tear the skyline apart, and the wreckage rises up as a Traction City that drives off belching smoke
- 🍩 The Simpsons — helicopters lower a giant glass dome over the city, seal it into the ground, and everything turns Simpsons-yellow (water tower and nuclear plant included)
- 🦤 Emu War — the army opens fire, the emus don't care, the city loses
- 🦭 Neil the Seal — headbutts every building down one at a time, then goes for a well-earned lean on a traffic cone
Fixed
- Alien mothership's death ray was rendering a frame behind the ship — beam now tracks it exactly
- Several demolition effects (Titanic's plow-through, Mortal Engines' cranes) were only fading buildings in a throwaway copy of the grid instead of actually persisting the damage — city now stays wrecked
- Cranes in Mortal Engines were floating way above the skyline and barely scratching it — now full-height masts that actually clear the whole width
- Emu sprite had the wrong proportions (stubby legs, no neck) — redrawn with long legs and a proper neck/head/beak
Added
- Top bar with a version badge, and a GitHub link
- Update checker: the version badge turns red with a tooltip if the live build doesn't match a published GitHub release
Changed
- Converted the page from static HTML to PHP to support the update checker
