  • Creating a party: a party is created automatically when someone accepts your invite. You can also create one alone with /party create [name].
  • Invites show clickable [ACCEPT] and [DENY] buttons and expire after inviteExpirySeconds (default 60 s).
  • When the owner leaves, a manager becomes the new owner (or the longest-standing member if there is no manager).
  • A party is disbanded when only one member is left, unless it is a public party. Public parties stay open with one member so others can join.
  • Transferring ownership (/party transfer <member>) turns the old owner into a manager.

Party names and public parties

  • /party rename <name> gives the party a name (max. 24 characters, color codes are removed, names are unique). The name appears in the HUD, the chat prefix and the settings screen. /party rename without a name removes it.
  • /party public on makes the party public: anyone can join with /party join <party name or owner name> without an invite, as long as the party is not full.
  • /party browse lists all public parties with a clickable [JOIN] button.
  • Server owners can turn public parties off with publicPartiesAllowed=false.

Party HUD

The HUD shows every member with:

  • player head (or initials when the skin is not available)
  • name, owner marker ◆
  • health, level, XP progress and XP missing to the next level
  • distance in blocks (-- in another dimension or offline)

Which values may be shown is a party rule (set by owner/managers). Everything else is up to each player in the HUD settings (since 2.0.0):

  • three designs (Futuristic, Classic, Minimal), any accent color, background opacity, animations and text shadow
  • detailed or compact layout, every value on/off, sorting, max. rows, hide yourself or offline members
  • scale, width and a free position with nine screen anchors, set by dragging the HUD with the mouse

Other mods can add their own lines to the HUD, hide it temporarily or read its position through the Client API.

Party chat

  • /pc <message> or /party chat <message> sends one message to your party.
  • /pc or /party chat without a message toggles party chat mode: everything you type in normal chat goes to your party until you run /pc again. Leaving the party turns it off automatically.
  • Messages look like [Party name] ◆ Owner: message and are only sent to members.
  • With partyChatLogToConsole=true (default), party chat is also written to the server log.

Pings and death markers

Press G (or /party ping) to mark the block you are looking at (up to 96 blocks away). All party members see a marker with your name and the distance, also through walls and at the screen edge when it is behind them.

Type Color How to send
Normal your HUD accent color G, /party ping
Danger red own key (unbound by default), /party ping danger
Target ("go here") yellow own key, /party ping target
Loot green own key, /party ping loot
Death white ✖ automatic when a member dies
  • Every player has one active ping; a new ping replaces the old one. Death markers are kept separately.
  • When a member dies, the party gets a death marker for deathPingDurationSeconds (default 120 s) and a chat message with the coordinates (deathMessageToParty).
  • An optional sound plays when a ping arrives. Sound, volume, marker size and labels are personal HUD settings.
  • pingCooldownSeconds limits ping spam (default 1 s).

Party teleport

  1. /party tp <member> sends a teleport request. The member gets clickable [ACCEPT] / [DENY] buttons.
  2. After /party tpaccept, you have to stand still for teleportWarmupSeconds (default 3 s). Moving or taking damage cancels the teleport.
  3. You are teleported to the member and get a cooldown of teleportCooldownSeconds (default 60 s).

Server owners can disable teleports, skip the accept step (teleportRequireAccept=false), forbid teleports into other dimensions (teleportAcrossDimensions=false) or change warmup and cooldown.

Glow

With the personal HUD setting Glow (on by default) other party members get the glowing outline, so you can see them through walls. It is purely client-side: nobody else sees it and nothing is sent to the server.

Shared XP

When a party member picks up XP, PartyLink splits it equally between all members that are in range:

Mode Who shares
Radius members in the same world within the party's radius (10–maxSharedXpRadius blocks, default 30)
Current world all members in the same dimension
All worlds all online members
  • Each member receives their share as a normal XP orb, so Mending still works.
  • Fractions are carried over, so no XP is lost when the amount does not divide evenly.
  • Shared XP is a party rule and can be disabled server-wide (sharedXpAllowed=false).

Party PvP

The party rule Party PvP controls whether members can hurt each other. When it is OFF, damage from one member to another is cancelled (melee, arrows, tridents and other projectiles). Environmental damage still applies. Server owners can remove the option with partyPvpAllowed=false (members can then always hurt each other).

Admin tools

Operators (permission level 2) can use /party admin list, /party admin disband <player> and /party admin reload. See Commands.
