HUD Settings
Since 2.0.0 every player designs the party HUD themselves: look, content, size and position. These settings are stored on your computer in config/partylink-client.json, so they are the same on every server and stay when you join another party. Nothing of this is sent to the server.
- In the party settings (P) click HUD & Design... or Move HUD....
- Or bind the key Open HUD Settings (unbound by default) under Options → Controls → Key Binds → PartyLink. This also works when you are not in a party.
The screen has four tabs and a live preview on the right. Every change applies immediately; the file is saved when you close the screen. When you are not in a party, the preview and the editor show example members.
| Button | Effect |
|---|---|
| Move HUD... | Opens the HUD editor |
| Reset All | Restores every HUD setting to its default (asks first) |
| Close | Saves and goes back |
| Setting | Default | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Style | Futuristic | Futuristic (glowing frame, corner accents, scan lines), Classic (simple dark box with a colored border) or Minimal (light background, text with shadow) |
| Animations | ON | Pulsing glow of the frame and the owner row. OFF = static |
| Color | Blue | Accent color of the HUD, the settings screens and your normal ping markers. Cycles through Blue, Green, Red, Gold, Purple, Orange, Pink, White |
| Red / Green / Blue | 89 / 231 / 255 | Mix any accent color. The Color button then shows Custom |
| Member Colors | ON | Each member's row uses that member's own color. OFF = every row uses your accent color |
| Background | 100 % | Opacity of the panel and row backgrounds (0 % = text and bars only) |
| Text Shadow | OFF | Shadow behind all HUD text for better readability on bright backgrounds |
| Setting | Default | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| HUD | ON | Show or hide the party HUD. Ping markers are still shown |
| Layout | Detailed | Detailed: one block per member with level, HP and XP lines. Compact: one line per member with name, level, HP and distance plus thin bars |
| Header | ON | Party name and member count above the list |
| Player Heads | ON | Skins (or initials) next to the names |
| Show Me | ON | Include yourself in the list |
| Offline Members | ON | Include members who are offline |
| Level | ON | Level of each member |
| HP Text | ON | Health as 18/20 (compact: 18♥) |
| HP Bar | ON | Health bar, red below 30 % |
| XP Text | ON | XP progress and XP missing (detailed layout only) |
| XP Bar | ON | Thin green XP progress bar |
| Distance | ON | Distance in blocks (-- for other dimensions or offline) |
| Add-on Lines | ON | Extra lines that other mods add through the Client API |
| Hide When Alone | OFF | Hide the HUD while you are the only member |
| Sort | Party | Order of the members: Party (server order), Name, Distance (nearest first) or Health (lowest first, offline last) |
| Max. Rows | 8 | Show at most this many members; the rest is summarised as "+N more" |
Level, HP, XP and Distance are also party rules that the owner and managers set in the party settings. A value is shown only if the party rule and your own setting allow it.
| Setting | Default | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Scale | 85 % | Size of the whole HUD (50–200 %). In the editor the mouse wheel changes it too |
| Width | 190 | Width of the panel in GUI pixels (140–320). Longer names fit in a wider HUD |
| Auto Scale | ON | Shrinks the HUD slightly on small windows and whenever it would be taller than the screen |
| Anchor | Left | The screen point the HUD sticks to: Top Left, Top Center, Top Right, Left, Center, Right, Bottom Left, Bottom Center, Bottom Right |
| Reset Position | Back to the default place (left side, slightly above the middle) |
The line below the buttons shows the current anchor and offset.
| Setting | Default | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Ping Markers | ON | Show ping and death markers in the world |
| Ping Labels | ON | Sender name, ping type and distance above each marker |
| Marker Size | 100 % | Size of the markers (50–200 %) |
| Ping Sound | ON | Sound when a ping arrives (pitch depends on the ping type) |
| Ping Volume | 100 % | Volume of that sound (0 % = silent) |
| Glow | ON | Outline party members through walls (only on your screen) |
Move HUD... opens the editor. Your real HUD (or example members) is shown at its current place over the game.
- Drag the HUD with the left mouse button.
- When you let go, it snaps to the nearest anchor: the screen is split into thirds (shown as faint lines), and the third the HUD's center is in becomes its anchor. A HUD dropped in the top-right corner therefore stays in the top-right corner on every window size and GUI scale.
- Mouse wheel changes the scale in 5 % steps.
- Anchor cycles through the nine anchors, Reset Position restores the default, Done saves and goes back.
The editor buttons move to the top of the screen when the HUD is in the lower half, so they never cover it.
You normally never need to edit it, but you can (with the game closed, or reopen the HUD settings afterwards). Invalid values are reset to the default, numbers outside the allowed range are clamped. Delete the file to restore every default.

PartyLink 1.x stored HUD visibility, player heads, size, color, position, glow and ping sound on the server. The first time a 2.0.0 client receives these old values from the server (as soon as you are in a party), they are copied once into partylink-client.json, so your HUD looks the same as before. After that only the client file counts.
- The HUD switch in the HUD settings hides the HUD only on your screen.
- The command
/party hud offasks the server to stop sending you party data. The HUD, glow and the Client API data are then empty until/party hud on.
