People

Each portrait on a map is an actor from your world, shown with its picture and name.

Putting people on a map

Drag them in. Drag an actor from the Actors sidebar and drop it where you want it on the map.

Or press Add someone under the map. Tick everyone who should go on, and press Add. They're all seated in one go.

The Who goes on the map? window, with a Find someone box, Select all, and Bram the Fence, Haskel and Oona listed with tick boxes

  • The list leaves out anyone already on this map.
  • Type in Find someone to narrow the list by name. Select all ticks everything the list is showing.
  • When the world has more than one kind of actor, the window splits them into lists, with player characters first. A player character says who plays it.

A person can stand on several maps at once, in a different place on each.

Making a new person

Press New person under the map. Foundry's own Create Actor window opens. Name the actor, pick its type, and press Create Actor. The new actor goes straight onto the map.

The types you see come from your game system.

New person follows Foundry's own Create New Actors permission, so players only see it if the GM has given their role that permission. An actor a player makes this way can be seen by everyone at the table. One the GM makes stays hidden, like any new actor.

Working with a portrait

Rest the pointer on a portrait to see what you can do with it:

Corvin's portrait with its tooltip: Double-click to open their sheet, drag to move them. Right-click to see the delete button. Shift-click to select several people and move them together. Alt-drag to draw a line from them.

To Do this
Open their character sheet Double-click the portrait.
Move them Drag the portrait. With it focused, the arrow keys move it too (hold Shift for smaller steps).
Draw a line from them Drag from the link handle, or hold Alt and drag from the portrait. See Lines.
Select several people Shift-click portraits. See Selecting and moving.
Take them off the map Right-click the portrait, then press the bin that appears.

Taking someone off the map

Right-click a portrait. A bin appears at its top left.

Wren's portrait with a bin button at its top left

Press the bin and confirm. The person is taken off this map, along with every line drawn to them. Their actor isn't touched, and they stay on any other map they're on. The undo button puts them back.

With a portrait focused, the Delete key does the same.

People whose actor is gone

If an actor is deleted from the world, their portrait stays on the map so the lines around them still make sense. It's marked as a deleted actor, and double-clicking it can't open a sheet.
