Compass

The compass points at spawn. The runner hasn't been seen in the hunter's dimension yet, so there's no trail, and the hunter is told so. It starts working once the runner is in the same dimension, or has used a portal out of it.

The compass doesn't move. Check compass.update-mode. In manual mode, hunters right-click to update it. During the headstart it doesn't point anywhere on purpose.

The compass does nothing in the Nether. compass.disable-in-nether-for-hunters is on.

A hunter lost their compass. They get it back automatically after dying or rejoining, or they can use /hounded compass.

It tracks the wrong runner. Left-click the compass to switch to the next runner.

Players

Hunters can't move.

  • During the headstart that's the freeze (headstart.freeze-hunters).
  • While hunting, a runner may be looking at them, if rules.freeze-when-looked-at is on.

I can't teleport a hunter during the headstart. Frozen hunters can't be teleported by commands or plugins unless they have hounded.admin. Stop the round first, or wait for the release.

I can't add or remove players. Roles are locked during a round. Use /hounded stop first. Players must be online to be added.

A runner disconnected. Are they out? Not straight away. They have rules.runner-rejoin-grace-seconds (5 minutes by default) to come back.

Players on the same team can't hurt each other. That's rules.friendly-fire: false, the default.

Setup

My config changes did nothing. Run /hounded reload, then check the console for warnings about invalid values. See Configuration.

My message changes don't show. Run /hounded reload, and check your MiniMessage tags are closed. See Translating Messages.

The placeholders are empty.

  • Check that PlaceholderAPI is installed, and that the console says "PlaceholderAPI found" when Hounded starts.
  • Some placeholders are empty for players they don't apply to, for example distance for runners.
  • Test with /papi parse me %hounded_state%.

The start guide keeps showing, or never shows. It shows to admins until the first round is started. Turn it off with quick-start-guide: false, or delete plugins/Hounded/data.yml to see it again.

Does it work on Spigot or Folia? No. Hounded needs Paper 1.21.4 or newer, or a Paper-based server such as Purpur.

Does Hounded collect data? Only anonymous usage stats through bStats: how many servers and players use Hounded, and which Minecraft, Java and Hounded versions they run. No player names or IP addresses are stored. To turn it off for all plugins, set enabled: false in plugins/bStats/config.yml.

Does it reset the world after a round? No. Use a world management plugin, or swap worlds between rounds.
