Support and strengthen the participation of local communities in improving water and sanitation management

Layperson Tasks

  • Support construction of public restrooms (as well as oversight on its budget. Looking at you, San Francisco)
  • Support water and sanitation solutions developed by people who are homeless or in poverty, for their own community. Support legalizing imperfect, low-budget solutions over none at all. Do not support politicians that prevent these efforts.
  • Support free menstrual products available in public restrooms.
  • If someone you know does not have access to a toilet, ask if a composting toilet or chemical toilet could work for them. If they are concerned about access to regular supplies or disposal methods, see if you can assist them with setting up deliveries, transportation, or the cost. Amazon is a sucky ass company and also has automated delivery options.
  • If someone you know is trying to construct a toilet but does not have transportation or money for materials, if you can, help set up product delivery, provide transportation to pick up free used items, or share a go Fund me they have created.

Informational Resources

  • In the United States, water district elected officials use the position as a "resume booster" before campaigning for other public offices.
