Items

The item catalogue is the list of products you keep in the house. Stock, recipes, order suggestions and the journal all point back to it.

Creating an item

Three ways, fastest first:

1. Scan a barcode. Scanning an unknown EAN offers to create the item; name, pack size and picture come from Open Food Facts when the product is known there.
2. Import from orders (Items → Picnic import). Takes products from your last ten Picnic deliveries, with picture, pack size and the Picnic link already attached. The quickest way to fill an empty catalogue.
3. By hand (+ New item).

The fields

Field	What it is for
Name	The only required field.
EAN / barcode	What the scanner matches on. Look up fetches details from Open Food Facts.
Pack size + unit	500 g, 0.7 l, 6 pcs. Recipes use this to work out how many packs a quantity needs — without it, cookability cannot be checked.
Minimum stock	Below this, the item appears in order suggestions. 0 means never suggest.
Default location	Where quick corrections and stocktake surpluses are booked.
Tags	Free labels, used as filters in the item list and stocktake.
Picnic link	The product ID used for ordering and for matching deliveries.
Picture	Uploaded, or taken automatically from Open Food Facts or Picnic.

Units are stored as you chose them and only their label is translated: an item saved as pieces shows as pcs in English and stuks in Dutch, but the stored value never changes. Switching the interface language never rewrites your data.

The Picnic link

Two ways to set it:

• Search — type a term and pick the product. Bear in mind that Picnic's search does not accept EANs; search by name.
• Enter the ID directly, e.g. s1027848, if you already know it.

A product can exist in Picnic's catalogue under several IDs, and IDs sometimes disappear. If an order lands nowhere, see Ordering.

Tags

Item tags are a separate pool from recipe tags — the same word can exist in both without them being related. Type a tag and press Enter, or pick one of the suggestions below the field.

Stock on the item page

Every item page lists all batches of that item across all locations, grouped by location, with the same controls as the storage location view: quick +/−, edit quantity and date, move to another location.

Deleting

Deleting an item deletes its stock with it, and asks first. The Journal keeps its entries: they stay readable under the name the item had, only greyed out and no longer clickable.
