Stocktake
Sooner or later the app and the cupboard disagree — someone took the last tin without booking it out. The Stocktake page is how you make them agree again.
Every item that currently holds stock is listed with its total and a breakdown per location ("Fridge 2×, Pantry shelf 1×"), so you can see where to look before you count.
Type the number you actually counted and press ✓. Proviant books the difference for you:
- More than expected → the surplus is booked into the item's default location, without a best-before date.
- Fewer than expected → the shortfall is booked out FEFO, oldest date first.
The difference is calculated against the live stock at the moment you press the button, not against the figure that was on screen when you started counting. If someone books in the meantime, your count still lands correctly.
- The search box matches item names.
- The tag chips filter by item tag — tag everything in the freezer
with
frozenand you can count one room at a time.
The stocktake works on totals per item. It cannot say which batch the difference came from — that is why surpluses land without a date.
For anything more precise, open the storage location or the item page and correct the individual batch there. That way the best-before date stays right.
Every correction lands in the Journal as source Stocktake, so a later "why did we suddenly have three fewer?" is answerable.
