Ordering
Proviant suggests what has run low and puts it into your Picnic basket. It never places the order.
Checkout stays in the Picnic app — always. The app fills the basket and stops. Nothing is bought without you opening Picnic and confirming it there. This is a deliberate design decision, not a missing feature.
The first time you open Order, connect once: login plus a code by SMS. The auth key is stored in your data volume and survives restarts, so two-factor confirmation is rarely needed again.
The connection panel at the top always shows where you stand: No credentials configured, Not connected, Confirmation by SMS code required or Connected to Picnic.
Without a connection, order suggestions, delivery check and the recipe basket do not work. Everything else does.
An item appears when its stock is below its minimum stock — set that per item, see Items. Zero means never.
The suggested quantity is not simply the shortfall. Proviant reconciles it against your Picnic basket and your undelivered orders, down to the quantity:
- 2 short, nothing on the way → 2 suggested.
- 2 short, 1 already in the basket → 1 suggested.
- 2 short, 2 already ordered → not suggested at all; the item is listed under "already in the basket or ordered" instead.
- 2 short, 2 ordered but cancelled by Picnic → 2 suggested again. A line Picnic will not deliver does not count as on its way.
That last case is worth knowing about. Picnic marks a cancelled line only on the delivery, never on the order line itself — the line keeps its full quantity and full price and looks perfectly ordinary. Proviant reads the cancellation and discounts it, so an item Picnic dropped comes back as a suggestion instead of staying invisible until the delivery arrives without it.
If Picnic cannot be reached for the basket or the open orders, the page says so plainly rather than pretending the list is complete.
Tick what you want — quantities are pre-filled and editable — and press the button at the bottom. Select all / Deselect all is in the top right of the list. Items without a Picnic link cannot be ticked; link them on the item page first.
Picnic accepts unknown product IDs without an error: nothing lands in the basket and the request looks successful. Proviant therefore checks afterwards and warns you by name when something did not arrive.
The usual cause is a product ID that Picnic no longer knows — the same product often exists under several IDs. Open the item, set the Picnic link again by searching for the product, and reorder.
Live-tested limits, so you do not go looking for these:
- The search does not find EANs, and product details contain no EAN or GTIN. Barcodes therefore only ever resolve through Open Food Facts.
- Recipe images are not publicly retrievable (product images are).
