Steam

Steam has the most custom code in TcNo Account Switcher. It uses internal/steam/ and the PlatformSteam UI instead of the templated engine.

Historical Steam-only builds are covered on Platform Steam Legacy.

Local data

Data Source
Account list {Steam}\config\loginusers.vdf
Auto-login username HKCU\Software\Valve\Steam\AutoLoginUser
Persona state {Steam}\userdata\{id}\config\localconfig.vdf
Avatars and profile flags Steam Web API / community pages, unless offline mode is enabled

Switching

  1. Close Steam-related processes.
  2. Edit loginusers.vdf so the target account is most recent and remembers its password.
  3. Set AutoLoginUser in the registry.
  4. Apply persona state if requested.
  5. Relaunch Steam.exe.

Steam does not need to be open before a swap.

Password prompts

Steam asks for a password the first time an account logs in on a PC. Enable Remember password.

Switching itself never asks for a Steam password. It reuses Steam's own remembered-login data.

The only place the switcher takes a Steam password is the optional Steam Guard window, where Steam's sign-in requires one. It is encrypted for Steam, sent to Steam, and not written to disk; the session token Steam returns is what gets stored, in an encrypted vault.

If Steam asks every time, see FAQ details.

Add accounts

  1. Click Add New in the switcher.
  2. Sign in through Steam with Remember password enabled.
  3. Return to the switcher. The account should appear after refresh.

Do not use Steam's sign-out button for account setup.

Remove accounts

Right-click an account and choose Forget.

This removes the entry from the switcher and loginusers.vdf. It can affect Big Picture until you sign in again.

Use Steam -> Settings -> Tools to restore from backup when available.

Accounts stored in the Steam Guard vault are removed separately. See Steam Guard.

Steam Guard

Optional. Stores Steam mobile authenticator secrets and Steam sign-in sessions in an encrypted folder, so the app can show codes, approve confirmations, and read account-private data such as CS2 cooldowns and ranks.

Open it with the shield button in the bottom bar, or right-click an account and choose Steam Guard. Settings live under Steam -> Settings -> Steam Guard.

Advanced cleaning

Open Steam -> Settings -> Advanced Cleaning.

These actions are destructive. Close Steam first.

General cleaning

Deletes Steam logs, dumps, htmlcache, overlay logs, appcache, httpcache, and depotcache under Steam and %LocalAppData%\Steam.

Clear login history

Deletes loginusers.vdf, config.vdf, ssfn* files, and registry values:

  • AutoLoginUser
  • LastGameNameUsed
  • PseudoUUID
  • RememberPassword

Steam recreates these on next launch. You will need to add accounts again.
