Flight Panel Mode
The touch-first cockpit display for a tablet mounted at your flight station — and the view Frameshift opens with by default. Tap ✕ EXIT (bottom of the rail) for the tabbed desktop workspace, or ◈ PANEL (top right of the desktop view) to come back. The mode and current page are remembered per device, so the tablet stays a panel while the desktop stays a desktop.
A tactical command header (v2.3.0): your system large and glowing, a
dock-state chip, tracked-route progress, and ship telemetry — credits, legal
state, and rebuy with a live coverage line (COVERS 21×, amber under two
rebuys, red when you can't afford the loss). Fuel and cargo are segmented
gauges that advise: ≈jumps at your recent burn rate, whether the star here
(or next on route) is scoopable, free tonnage. Unbanked exploration and bio
value get their own card with body/species counts, and a full-width DATA AT
RISK banner appears when unsold data is worth many rebuys. Below: live
session stats (credits per hour, jumps, distance), recent jumps as big
tap-to-replot buttons, a one-line route plotter, and ◈ BEST LOOP FROM
HERE — one tap finds the top trade loops around you, no form filling.
When the game isn't running, a launch control banner offers one guarded tap to start Elite through Steam — it stands down once you're flying. And at every app start, a brief startup sequence (FLIGHT RECORDER → COCKPIT RESTORE → SYSTEMS CHECK) shows your journals being replayed into the cockpit.
New in v2.6.0: when your frame shift drive commits to a hyperspace jump, the panel jumps with you. The countdown locks in your destination — system name, star class, and whether you can refuel there — then a real-time witchspace tunnel takes over, with destination, transit clock, fuel and route position as a heads-up display. Dropping into normal space flashes an arrival card: the system name, the jump distance, and what to do next (deploy the scoop at a fuel star; a clear warning when a low tank arrives somewhere with no fuel to give).
Two situations get their own look: neutron stars turn the tunnel cyan
with an FSD SUPERCHARGED ×4 banner, and jumping on critically low fuel
turns the whole sequence red (the drive still advises: DON'T PANIC).
It's on by default and entirely optional — a ⏭ SKIP button dismisses any single jump, and Settings has the master switch, a flash-reduction option for photosensitive commanders, an intensity slider, and a ◈ PREVIEW JUMP button that plays a simulated jump with no game running. The tunnel renders at adaptive resolution so tablet GPUs keep their frame rate, and it calms itself automatically when your device asks for reduced motion.
The icon rail on the left (a bottom bar on narrow/portrait screens) — or swiping left/right, the page follows your finger — moves between:
STATUS · TRADE · MARKET · EXPLORE · GUIDES · STATS · ENG · GALAXY · OPS · ROLES · LOCAL · SETTINGS
Every page shares the cockpit design language: corner-bracketed cards, glowing letter-spaced labels, chunky touch-sized controls. The rail also holds 🔊 VOICE (callouts), ⛶ FULL (fullscreen) and ✕ EXIT.
Tap the floating ⇅ button (or ⇅ ARRANGE next to the desktop tabs): every card collapses to a compact header with a drag handle — reorder them, or tap ⊘ HIDE to remove a card from that page entirely (⊕ SHOW brings it back). Layouts are saved per page, per device: the tablet shows only what you fly with, the desktop keeps everything.
Toggle with 🔊 VOICE on the rail. Every callout also flashes a banner or toast, so it works with sound off. What it speaks:
| Callout | When |
|---|---|
| "Scoop now…" | You're at a scoopable star and the next fuel star on your plotted route is farther than your tank reaches |
| "Top off — N dry jumps ahead" | Leaving a scoopable star into a stretch with no fuel stars |
| "Strand risk / no fuel star ahead" | Fuel low with no reachable scoopable star — replot (with a "SYNTH READY" suffix when you carry jumponium materials) |
| "Low fuel" | Tank below 25% (muted while docked) |
| "Interdiction detected — evade or submit" | The instant you're pulled from supercruise |
| "Hull at 75/50/25 percent" | As your hull drops through each tier |
| "First discovery…" | You jump into a system no commander has scanned |
| "You cannot afford your rebuy" | Credits drop below your ship's insurance cost (caution at 2×) |
| "Sample clear" | On foot: you've walked far enough for the next bio sample |
| "Massacre stack complete" | Your kills satisfy every massacre mission against a faction |
| "Materials complete for…" | A pickup finishes a pinned engineering blueprint's list |
| Route plotted / waypoint reached / route complete | Autoplot & route tracking confirmations |
Fuel math uses your actual fuel burn (worst of your recent jumps) and the star classes on your plotted route (scoopable = K G B F O A M + proto-stars). The default neural voice is Alba (five others available in Settings), with the browser's built-in speech as fallback.
- Add the LAN URL to your tablet's home screen for a fullscreen app feel.
- Swipe is disabled inside tables and text fields so scrolling still works.
- Pick a color theme per device — the tablet can run Ice while the desktop stays Elite orange.
