Connect the bot

A channel needs permission from Twitch before BlokeBot can join its chat. The dashboard guides you through each missing connection.

Connect a channel

  1. Select My channel and open Channel setup.
  2. In the channel card, find Twitch chat.
  3. Select Connect channel.
  4. Complete the Twitch window using the account that owns or manages that channel.
  5. Return to BlokeBot and check that it says The bot can chat in this channel.

Use Reconnect channel when BlokeBot says the Twitch connection needs refreshing. Disconnect channel clears BlokeBot's local authorization record; the channel flow does not retain a reusable OAuth token set.

Connect the main bot account

A BlokeBot administrator manages the shared Bot account from Admin.

  1. Open Admin.
  2. Expand Bot account.
  3. Select Connect bot account.
  4. In the Twitch window, sign in as the Twitch account configured as the bot.
  5. Return to BlokeBot and select Refresh if the status has not changed.

If the wrong Twitch account was used, select Disconnect and connect again with the correct account.

Use a different bot for one channel

A channel can choose its own bot account instead of the shared one. The server owner does not need to configure encryption first: BlokeBot protects custom-bot credentials automatically in private persistent application state.

  1. Open Channel setup.
  2. Expand Use your own bot account.
  3. Turn on Use custom bot.
  4. Select Connect custom bot.
  5. Sign in to Twitch as the account that should speak for this channel.

The optional Whisper responses section can send supported command replies from that custom bot. Twitch limits how many new people an account can whisper each day; the dashboard shows the remaining amount.

After an upgrade from old plaintext custom-bot credentials, BlokeBot disables the custom bot and shows the channel owner an alert. Follow that alert and connect the custom bot again. See State and secrets.

Start the bot

When Twitch chat and the required bot account both show ready:

  1. Find Bot status in Channel setup.
  2. Select Start bot.
  3. Check that the status changes to running.

Select Stop bot when you want to take it out of chat. If Start bot is disabled, read its hint and the nearby connection statuses, then complete the missing step.
