Effects

All slots (sirens and samples) share one effects chain:

 slots ─┬─ dry share (1 − FX send) ──► drive ► filter ───────────────────────────────────────────┐
        └─ send share (FX send) ─────► drive ► filter ► + delay ► (phaser) + reverb ─────────────┴─► master ► limiter ► out

The FX send of each slot decides how much of it reaches delay and reverb; the rest bypasses them. Drive and filter act on everything. The delay feeds the reverb, like a classic dub mixing desk. The phaser sits on the delay returns only: it shapes the echoes, never the dry signal.

In the plugin window the effects bar shows the groups DRIVE, FILTER, DELAY, PHASER, REVERB and MASTER. All parameters are regular host parameters, so you can automate them.

Drive

Label Parameter Range Default
Drive Drive 0 – 1 0

A saturation that changes character as you turn it up:

  • 0 passes the signal through untouched.
  • Lower half: soft and warm. A gentle asymmetry adds even harmonics, like a tape or tube stage.
  • Upper half: increasingly hard, biting clipping.
  • The level is compensated only partly: for moderate signals the level rises with the knob, very loud signals get slightly quieter towards the top. The output limiter catches the peaks.
  • The saturator is anti-aliased (no fizz on high notes) and has no latency.
  • Because of that anti-aliasing the highs are softened a little as soon as Drive is above zero (about −2 dB at 10 kHz).

Drive sits in front of the filter, so a filter sweep moves through the added harmonics.

Filter

Label Parameter Range Default Notes
Cutoff Filter Cutoff 20 Hz – 20 kHz 20 kHz Smoothed, so sweeping is zipper-free.
Reso Filter Resonance 0 – 1 0.1 Stable up to the maximum (Q ≈ 20).
LP·BP·HP Filter Type 0 – 1 0 Morphs continuously: 0 = low-pass, 0.5 = band-pass, 1 = high-pass.

Tape delay

A tape echo in the style of a Roland RE-201 Space Echo.

Label Parameter Range Default Notes
Time Delay Time 1/16T, 1/16, 1/16D, 1/8T, 1/8, 1/8D, 1/4T, 1/4, 1/4D, 1/2T, 1/2, 1/2D, 1/1 1/8D Always tempo-synced to the host (T = triplet, D = dotted).
Feedback Delay Feedback 0 – 110 % 45 % Above 100 % the delay self-oscillates; a soft clipper in the loop keeps it bounded.
Tone Delay Tone 0 – 1 0.5 Low-pass inside the feedback loop (500 Hz – 12 kHz).
Wow Delay Wow 0 – 1 0.2 Amount of tape wow and flutter (irregular pitch wobble of the repeats).
Mix Delay Mix 0 – 1 0.35 Level of the echoes added to the send signal.

What gives it the tape character:

  • Every repeat gets a little darker and softer: a high-pass, a gentle bass bump, a fixed high-frequency loss and a soft asymmetric saturation sit inside the feedback loop.
  • Wow and flutter drift irregularly (a slow sine plus a random walk, a fast sine plus jitter), so the wobble never repeats exactly. The right channel wobbles slightly out of phase for a little width.
  • A faint tape noise runs through the loop. It is inaudible at moderate feedback and only rings up when the feedback is high.

Changing the delay time glides like a tape machine (~250 ms), producing the classic pitch-bent "dub throw". Maximum delay time is ~10 s.

Phaser (on the delay returns)

A soft four-stage phaser with a Phase-90 style character. It only processes the echoes coming out of the delay, before they are mixed into the send signal, so the dry signal stays clean.

Label Parameter Range Default Notes
Rate Phaser Rate 0.05 – 3 Hz 0.4 Hz Free-running sweep speed (not tempo-synced).
Depth Phaser Depth 0 – 1 0.5 Sweep width (about 120 Hz – 4 kHz at maximum) and feedback amount.
Mix Phaser Mix 0 – 1 0 0 = off (the signal passes through bit-exact).

The phaser is off by default, so existing projects sound the same until you turn Mix up. The left and right channels sweep 90° apart for stereo width. At high depth there is a gentle resonant peak in the sweep.

Spring reverb

Label Parameter Range Default Notes
Decay Reverb Decay 0 – 1 0.5 Tail length.
Tone Reverb Tone 0 – 1 0.5 Brightness of the tail.
Mix Reverb Mix 0 – 1 0.25 Level of the reverb added to the send signal.

A chain of short all-pass filters gives the characteristic "boing" dispersion of a spring tank.

Master

Label Parameter Range Default
Master Master −60 … +6 dB 0 dB

−60 dB = muted. A peak limiter at the output keeps the signal below −0.3 dBFS, so even runaway feedback never clips your DAW's channel.

Master, delay mix, reverb mix, phaser depth and mix, drive and filter type are smoothed (~20 ms) for live use.
