Trigger Modes and Choke

Each slot has one voice. Up to 16 sounds can play at once, one per slot. An empty slot never sounds, never chokes and is never latched.

Trigger modes

Mode Note on Note off Typical use
Gate Starts the sound (restarts it if it is already sounding) Starts the release Play the siren like a button on a siren box
Latch Starts the sound if it is silent or fading out; stops it (release) if it is holding ignored Tap on, tap off: long sirens under a drop
One-Shot Starts (or restarts) the sound; after Length the release starts automatically ignored Lasers, zaps, risers, drops with a fixed length

Details:

  • Velocity is ignored: every hit plays at the slot's volume.
  • Retriggering a sounding siren does not click: the oscillator keeps its phase and the envelope continues from its current level.
  • If you change a slot's mode while a note is held (e.g. by automation), the note-off still ends the note correctly: it follows the mode the sound was started with.
  • One-Shot timing is sample-accurate and does not depend on your audio buffer size.
  • Clicking a pad in the plugin window always behaves like Gate (sounds while you hold the mouse).

Samples

Sample slots use the same modes with these differences (details in Samples):

  • Gate: a looped sample repeats while the note is held; without Loop the sample ends at its end.
  • Latch: works as a real latch for looped samples (first note starts, next note stops). Without Loop it behaves like Gate.
  • One-Shot: plays the sample through to its end; Length does not apply.

Choke groups

Slots in the same choke group (1–4) cut each other off: when a sound in a group starts, every other sounding sound in that group fades out in 5 ms. Slots with choke group None never choke and are never choked.

In the factory kit, all one-shot effects (Laser, Riser, Faller, Bleep, Zap, Drop) share choke group 1, so firing one replaces the previous one.

Latch on transport stop ("Latch on Stop")

A global setting decides what happens to latched sounds when your DAW's transport stops (playing → stopped). Gate sounds get note-offs from the host anyway; one-shots finish on their own.

Setting Behaviour
Keep Playing Latched sounds keep sounding until you stop them.
Release (default) Latched sounds go into their normal release.
Stop Immediately Latched sounds are cut with a 5 ms fade.

Panic

The Panic parameter/button stops every sound (5 ms fade), latched ones included, and clears all latches and one-shot timers. Delay and reverb are not cleared, so the tails ring out naturally. Panic fires on the rising edge of the parameter: map it to a momentary button that sends 127 on press and 0 on release.
