Switch to the official Docker image

Already using Blank Box with an image you built locally? You can keep your existing Docker library and switch to the public prebuilt image. No new account or storage move is needed.

  1. Make a complete recovery point and keep the current container running.
  2. Download and verify the small Docker setup ZIP in a new folder.
  3. Copy your current .env and compose.override.yaml or compose.override.yml into that folder. Only those files may be added to the signed setup. Keep other custom Compose files and referenced secret/config files outside it, preserving their references. Keep the same project, UID/GID, ports and storage paths. Save your access settings in .env; sudo can omit terminal-only settings. For home-network access, keep BLANKBOX_BIND_ADDRESS=0.0.0.0 there.
  4. In the new setup folder, run ./upgrade-docker.sh, or sudo ./upgrade-docker.sh if Docker requires sudo. sudo bash ./upgrade-docker.sh can invoke the Bash script if direct execution does not work.
  5. Sign in at your usual address and check items, artwork and sources. Keep the previous image and paired snapshot printed by the updater.

The updater verifies and pulls the image before stopping, preserves the existing container user and incoming .env owner, takes a paired catalog/assets snapshot and checks readiness. Failed activation restores the previous image and paired catalog. Correct any .env ownership left by an earlier update before copying it. Do not use fresh-install setup or delete the data volume for this transition.

Follow the complete short migration guide for verification and settings details. Changing to Portainer or moving storage is a separate step after the image update works.
