Mast crew: Raising Spinnaker on starboard tack

christiam edited this page Jul 23, 2015 · 2 revisions
  1. Set up spinnaker pole
    1. Guy: Attach fwd end to starboard line (the guy)
    2. Hook: Attach topping lift hook
    3. Mast Ring: attach back end to mast ring
  2. Pre-feed the guy (optional): pull guy so that fwd spinnaker clew is around forestay (helps to put electrical tape around forestay adjuster/extension)
  3. Release the snap shackle on spinnaker head on port
  4. Check spinnaker halyard for twists, fix them if needed
  5. RAISE spinnaker quickly, yell "made" when done
  6. Push spinnaker pole forward while middle crew/skipper pulls in the guy.
  7. Put guy under chain plate hook

Tips

  • Once the spinnaker is up, its pole should be perpendicular to the wind (more or less aligned with the boom).
  • Lower tip of pole in light winds, raise it in high winds.
