AFK Detection

AFK Detection

Applies to all six Info TAB branches. The AFK system is byte-identical on all of them.

What it does

A player who has been inactive for the configured timeout gets an [AFK] prefix, in creme — a fixed colour, not configurable.

The prefix always goes at the very front of the entry, regardless of whether the dimension part is set to prepend or append:

[AFK] PlayerName [Overworld]

It appears in the tab list on everyone's screen, and above the player's head on clients that have the mod. The head tag is driven by what the server already decided, so both always agree.

Timeout

Config key afkTimeoutMinutes
Default 10 minutes
Range 1 to 9999 minutes

The value is read live on every check, so editing it in the TOML takes effect without a restart.

It is the only option that cannot be changed from the config screen or from /infotab — it has to be edited in config/info_tab-common.toml.

What counts as activity

Trigger Notes
Moving Checked every 5 seconds. Any change of position counts, even sub-block.
Mouse look Rotating the camera counts.
Key presses and mouse clicks Throttled: at most one signal per 3 seconds.
Right-clicking a block
Right-clicking or using an item Including right-click with an empty hand.
Left-clicking a block
Interacting with an entity
Chatting

Two important details:

  • Input detection only works while you are actually playing. The mod ignores mouse and keyboard input while a screen is open, so turning the mouse in your inventory does not count as activity. Opening a menu resets the look baseline.
  • Melee attacks on entities do not count. Only left-clicking a block is tracked. Attacking a stationary target without moving leaves the AFK timer running, which the mod's own documentation describes inaccurately as resetting on "combat".

When the entry updates

The tab entry is re-sent to clients when:

  • a player logs in
  • a player changes dimension
  • a player respawns
  • a player's AFK state actually changes (not on a timer)
  • any /infotab sub-command that mutates something runs

Known issues

  • /infotab reload does not re-read the config file. It prints a success message and refreshes the players, but nothing reloads. Restart the server to pick up hand-edits.
  • moddedDimensions in the config is inert. No code reads it. Use customColors and dimAliases.
  • /infotab setting <unknown-key> <bool> silently does nothing while still answering that it set the option.
  • The AFK timeout has no translation key, so in the config screen it would show as a raw key name even if it were exposed there.
