Getting Started

Applies to all six Info TAB branches. Pick the one that matches your Minecraft version; see the table in Home.

Requirements

Minecraft 1.21.1, or 26.1.2, or 26.2
NeoForge 21.1.249+ / 26.1.2.76+ / 26.2.0.57+
Java 21 on 1.21.1, 25 on 26.1.2 and 26.2
Dependencies none

NeoForge only. There is no Fabric, Quilt or Forge build.

Installation

  1. Install NeoForge for your Minecraft version.
  2. Put the Info TAB JAR in the mods folder on the server and on every client.
  3. Launch. That is all — there is no configuration step and nothing to enable in a world.

The client is not optional

Info TAB has to be on the client. This is not a recommendation: the mod registers its network channel as required on both sides, so a client that does not have it is refused at connection time with NeoForge's "This channel is missing on the client side, but required on the server!"

The mod declares displayTest = IGNORE_SERVER_VERSION, which relaxes the loader's version check but does not bypass channel negotiation. There is no mixed-mode setup.

What you see

Open the tab list. Each player looks like this:

PlayerName [Overworld]

The dimension is in brackets, coloured per dimension. PlayerName is the vanilla display name, so anything else that changes a player's tab name — a rank prefix from another mod, for example — still shows.

Players who have been inactive for ten minutes get an [AFK] prefix, always at the very front:

[AFK] PlayerName [Overworld]

The same [AFK] prefix also appears over the player's head when they are close enough, but only on clients that have the mod.

Changing it

Everything is configurable in three ways:

  • In game — Mods → Info TAB → Config opens the config screen for the booleans.
  • By command — /infotab works for any player and covers colours, aliases, format and placement. See Commands.
  • In the file — config/info_tab-common.toml. See Configuration.

On a multiplayer server

The config is a common config, so on a server it lives on the server and its values are authoritative and synced to clients. Clients do not need their own copy to match, and changing it on the server is what counts.

Because /infotab is available to every player and the config is shared, any player can change the colours, aliases, format and placement for everybody. If you run a public server, read the permission note in Commands before letting players near it.
