Wizard Duel

Bryce Lasson edited this page Sep 18, 2026 · 2 revisions

A real-time, 2D 2-player wizard duel. Two wizards face off across an 8×5 grid arena, each controlling their own 4×5 side of the battlefield. Each player has a basic fireball attack and a deck of spells. Fireball is a great option for chipping away health and keeping your opponent where you want them. Mixing in spell cards helps seal the deal with devastating damage and unique, grid based attack patterns.

I believe this project is feasible because it is a largely logic based game, avoiding a large amount of game engine physics, animations, and complex UI. The majority of the game will be determining interactions on the board. Because of this, our experiences in CS 240 will prove beneficial, especially if you enjoyed the chess project. I believe we'd need at least 3 team members with prior game engine experience. I'd prefer Unity, but can work with Godot and other engines too.

MVP:

  • Real-time 2D, two-player wizard duel
  • 8×5 grid arena, split into two 4×5 sides
  • Movement, health, basic fireball, and spell cards
  • Lightning, Earth Spike, and Heal
  • Generic reusable Health, Damage, Projectile, Weapon, Movement, targeting, and card systems

Future ideas (if MVP goals are met):

  • Elemental bonuses (cards and character selection)
  • Barriers, minions, other persistent object spells
  • Fancy artwork (thinking something like the the example below, time allowing).
