Frequently asked questions

Can several cats appear together?

Yes. Ctrl-click up to eight names in Choose your cats before enabling the guard. You can mix illustrated and realistic cats.

Does every cat get its own mouse?

No. The cats share one mouse, which finds cheese, carries it home, and tries to evade them.

Can cats sleep anywhere?

They can choose nap spots throughout the starting monitor's working area. Each reserves a separate position, so cats can rest beside each other.

Can I protect the keyboard without cats?

Yes. Use No cats / clear selection, then enable the guard.

Is there a Preview cats button?

No. Cats use natural behavior when the guard is enabled. Developers can use the keyboard-safe review mode described in Building from source.

Can I still use the mouse?

Yes. Click a cat to pet it; the toy mouse and clear space around cats remain click-through. The keyboard guard never blocks the mouse.

Does it work on every monitor at once?

The cats stay on the monitor where the cursor was when the guard started. Disable the guard and restart it with the cursor on another monitor to move the scene.

Do I need .NET or Blender?

Release builds include the .NET runtime. Blender is only needed to rebuild realistic animation assets.

Does CatX send my keystrokes anywhere?

No. CatX makes no network requests and does not record typed content. See Privacy.

Does minimizing stop protection?

No. CatX remains in the notification area. Use its tray menu to reopen it, disable protection, or exit.

Does CatX start with Windows?

CatX does not automatically start with Windows.

Is CatX a security lock?

It is an accidental-input guard. Use Windows' own lock screen to secure your account.
