Known Limitations

  • NoBrain supports ARM64 Android devices only. x86 and 32-bit devices are not supported.
  • Desktop applications run through PRoot and X11 rather than as native Android applications.
  • PRoot is not a virtual machine and does not provide every privileged kernel feature of native Linux.
  • GPU acceleration and hardware video decoding depend on Android/X11 drivers and remain limited.
  • WPS can reject direct export to Android shared storage because of its own UID/GID permission checks. Export to the Linux filesystem first.
  • Chromium requires --no-sandbox in the current PRoot design and may show a warning. Fake credentials or test mode are not an acceptable suppression.
  • NoBrain currently assumes one trusted owner. The nobrain account has passwordless sudo and is not a multi-user security boundary.
  • The default fresh-install passwords for nobrain and root are both nobrain; change them after installation.
  • The public source tree deliberately excludes the compressed rootfs, signing key, generated APK, private data, and some third-party binary inputs. It does not yet produce the complete release APK with one command.
  • The compact Build 185 rootfs intentionally omits substantial documentation and locale data. Its package database also reports broken utility and development symlinks that need clean reconstruction. Tested desktop, camera, microphone, WPS, package-update, SSH, compiler, Python, Git, and CMake paths work, but full package-file integrity is not yet claimed.
  • There is not yet an in-application delta updater. Official updates currently require downloading and opening the new APK.
  • Android uninstall or Clear data removes the private Linux filesystem.

NoBrain remains a pre-release. A behavior not listed here may still be a bug; please report reproducible findings through GitHub Issues.
