Package Management

NoBrain uses Void Linux and the XBPS package manager.

Update the system

Open a NoBrain terminal and run:

sudo xbps-install -Su

NoBrain provides a compatibility wrapper around xbps-install for the PRoot environment. Use the normal command name; do not bypass the wrapper with private implementation paths unless debugging the project itself.

The wrapper repairs package database metadata and restores the required owner and mode of privilege tools after successful package transactions. This keeps sudo and managed SSH usable after a full system update.

Install a package

sudo xbps-install PACKAGE_NAME

Search the repositories:

xbps-query -Rs SEARCH_TERM

Inspect an installed package:

xbps-query PACKAGE_NAME

Important cautions

  • Keep several gigabytes free before large upgrades.
  • Do not close NoBrain while XBPS is unpacking or configuring packages.
  • PRoot cannot reproduce every privileged kernel operation of native Void Linux. Some packages and service managers may not work unchanged.
  • NoBrain is a single-owner environment; the nobrain account currently has passwordless sudo.

If SSH stops immediately after a system update, leave the Android application installed, close the Linux session with Shutdown if possible, and reopen NoBrain. Build 150 repairs the privilege metadata during startup.
