Troubleshooting

Startup remains on Preparing application support

Version 0.1.2 fixed a fresh-install DWM migration failure that caused this state on 0.1.1. Confirm that the installed APK is 0.1.2 or newer.

The public 0.1.2 identity is:

If the animated dots continue for an unusually long time, keep the app open and inspect:

Internal storage/Download/nobrain-debug.log

Do not uninstall before copying important data or collecting the log.

Only the DWM bar appears

Wait for the startup status to reach Desktop ready. If the desktop never opens a terminal, use Shutdown/reopen when available and attach the redacted debug log to a GitHub issue.

Linux applications or sessions disappear unexpectedly

On Android 12 and newer, Android may classify NoBrain's PRoot descendants as phantom processes. This is especially relevant when Chromium, WPS, compilers, SSH sessions, or several applications run at the same time.

If the device exposes Developer options -> Apps -> Disable child process restrictions, enable it and restart NoBrain. See Android child process restrictions for the ADB fallback, verification command, and resource-use trade-offs.

This mitigation is separate from low-memory kills. If applications still die, check available RAM and Android/vendor battery restrictions before assuming the phantom-process monitor is responsible.

SSH Access does not open

  • Confirm that NoBrain reached Desktop ready.
  • On 0.1.1, a full xbps-install -Su could replace required sudo metadata. Update to 0.1.2 and reopen NoBrain.
  • Verify that the SSH menu command is running as the nobrain user with passwordless sudo.

SSH key export fails

Grant All files access, use NoBrain Shutdown, reopen it, and retry. A successful export appears in:

Internal storage/Download/NoBrain-SSH

Do not search developer-specific directories such as /home/tiny; the export target is Android shared storage.

WPS does not start or PDF export fails

Run the canonical installer again:

sudo /usr/local/bin/install-wps

It repairs the WPS runtime dependencies when WPS is already present. See WPS Office for library checks and the recommended export path.

A WPS chooser is behind another dialog

Confirm that the installed runtime is Build 150 or newer. Record the exact sequence, for example Writer -> Export PDF -> Browse, and report whether the problem reproduces after closing and reopening WPS.

Package update breaks sudo or SSH

Build 150 repairs privilege ownership and modes during XBPS transactions and at application startup. Do not uninstall. Reopen NoBrain and test:

sudo -n true

Reporting a useful bug

Include:

  • NoBrain version and runtime build;
  • Android version and device model;
  • fresh install or in-place update;
  • exact steps and visible error;
  • a redacted nobrain-debug.log when relevant.

Use GitHub Issues. Remove private keys, passwords, tokens, IP addresses, personal paths, and documents before posting.
