Template management

Templates save a reusable document structure. Creating an agreement from a template produces a new draft, which must still be checked, assigned to real recipients, and sent.

Find and use a template

  1. Open Templates.
  2. Browse the library, your own templates, or templates shared with you.
  3. Search by title, content, description, or tags. Use status and advanced filters to narrow results.
  4. Select a published template you are allowed to use.
  5. Create an agreement from it and enter the new agreement title and details.
  6. Open the draft, check content and field assignments, and set actual recipient email addresses before sending.

Do not assume old dates, amounts, or placeholder recipient information are appropriate for the new agreement.

Create or maintain a template

  1. Use the available template creation action, or convert an eligible agreement using the save-as-template action.
  2. Give it a descriptive title and explain its intended use in the description.
  3. Review content and fields, and add tags.
  4. Save the draft and create a version when recording a revision.
  5. Publish it when it is ready for others to use.

Publishing controls availability for reuse. Editing a template does not automatically revise agreements previously created from it.

Share a template

  1. Open its sharing controls.
  2. Select the intended user or team.
  3. Choose use/view access for reuse, or edit access when the recipient should maintain it.
  4. Save the share and check the access list.
  5. Remove a share when it is no longer needed.

The API uses access levels USE and EDIT. Some UI labels describe reuse as view/read access; integrations must use the API values rather than copying UI wording.

Limits and access

Template titles are 2–255 characters; descriptions up to 1,000 characters. The template validator permits file metadata up to 25 MB and HTML content up to 512 KB. This is separate from the 15 MB agreement upload limit. Accepted metadata does not guarantee browser preview or cryptographic signing support for every format.

Template operations require the appropriate template permissions and sharing access. If a template is missing, check publication state, workspace, filters, and shares.
