v1.9.0 — Enhanced Claude PR Review and Flexible Runner Configuration

This minor release improves the Claude-powered PR review workflow with smarter delegation and clearer output formatting, adds support for custom apt package installation on runners, and introduces a tag_prefix input for monorepo release tagging.

Features

Custom apt Package Installation for PR Review Runners (#55)

Callers can now specify additional apt packages to install on the runner before the review workflow executes. This is useful when the review process depends on language-specific tooling or other system dependencies.

Claude PR Review: Delegation When No Skill Matches (#54)

The claude-pr-review workflow now detects when none of its configured skills cover the domain of the submitted diff and delegates appropriately, rather than producing a low-confidence or empty review. This prevents unhelpful feedback on out-of-scope changes.

Claude PR Review: Ranked Summary with Visible Verdict (#52)

Review summaries now display a clear, visible verdict at the top, with supporting context collapsed to reduce noise. This makes it faster to understand the overall review outcome without scrolling through detail.

Tag Prefix Support for Monorepos (ai-release) (#48)

The ai-release workflow accepts a new tag_prefix input, enabling repositories that manage multiple independently-versioned artifacts to scope release tags per artifact (e.g., backend/v1.2.0, frontend/v1.0.3).

Improvements

  • Dependency updates: Bumped two actions in the actions group to their latest versions via Dependabot (#47).
  • Documentation: Corrected internal moving-tag comments in the release workflow from v0 to v1 (#53).

Commits

  • feat(pr-review): let callers name apt packages the runner must install (#55) (9a48fc8)
  • docs(release): correct the moving-tag comments from v0 to v1 (#53) (ac78f4a)
  • feat(claude-pr-review): delegate when no skill covers the diff domain (#54) (4da6ecc)
  • feat(claude-pr-review): rank the review summary — visible verdict, collapsed context (#52) (08dc65c)
  • deps(actions): bump the actions group across 1 directory with 2 updates (#47) (9825032)

This release improves the Claude PR review workflow with better delegation logic and documentation corrections.

Features

Improved Claude PR Review Delegation

The Claude PR review action now delegates pull requests when no skill in the configuration covers the diff domain. This ensures reviews are routed appropriately when the configured skills don't match the changes being reviewed.

Improvements

Documentation

Updated release documentation comments to correctly reference v1 tag conventions instead of v0, improving clarity for future maintainers.

Commits

  • docs(release): correct the moving-tag comments from v0 to v1 (#53) (ac78f4a)
  • feat(claude-pr-review): delegate when no skill covers the diff domain (#54) (4da6ecc)

release-workflows v1.8.0

This release adds monorepo tag prefix support for AI-generated releases and delivers several improvements and fixes to the Claude PR review workflow, including inline comment anchoring and duplicate-post prevention.

Features

Monorepo tag prefix for AI releases (ai-release)

A new tag_prefix input lets you scope AI-generated release tags to a specific package or artifact within a monorepo. This allows independent versioning across multiple packages in a single repository.

Usage: Pass tag_prefix (e.g., my-package@) when calling the ai-release workflow to namespace the generated tags for that artifact.

Inline-anchored findings in Claude PR reviews (claude-pr-review)

The Claude reviewer now anchors its findings directly to the relevant lines in the diff, surfacing feedback as inline review comments rather than a single top-level summary. This makes it easier to locate and act on specific suggestions without cross-referencing the diff manually.

Bug Fixes

  • Duplicate verdict posts eliminated — The fallback path in claude-pr-review was re-posting the verdict as a second comment; this has been corrected so only one verdict is published per review run.
  • Pinned claude-code-action to a full commit SHA — The dependency is now referenced by an exact SHA instead of a floating tag, preventing unexpected behaviour from upstream changes.

Commits

  • feat(ai-release): add tag_prefix for monorepos with independent artifacts (#48) (915facd)
  • feat(claude-pr-review): make the reviewer anchor findings inline (#46) (0c57d2b)
  • fix(claude-pr-review): stop the fallback double-posting the verdict (#45) (31422d8)
  • fix(claude-pr-review): pin claude-code-action to a full commit SHA (#44) (c803d1b)

v1.7.3

This release improves the Claude PR review workflow with better inline feedback anchoring and fixes a duplicate verdict issue.

Features

Inline Finding Anchoring

The Claude PR review action now anchors findings directly inline within pull request diffs. This makes review comments more contextual and easier to understand by placing feedback exactly where the issues occur in the code.

Bug Fixes

Prevent Duplicate Review Verdicts

Fixed an issue where the fallback review logic could cause the verdict to be posted multiple times. The review workflow now correctly posts the verdict only once, even when fallback mechanisms are triggered.

Commits

  • feat(claude-pr-review): make the reviewer anchor findings inline (#46) (0c57d2b)

Release v1.7.0

This release improves the Claude PR review workflow with smarter, context-aware review depth, and corrects documentation around OAuth token authentication for the AI release workflow.

Features

Skill-First Review Depth in claude-pr-review

The PR review workflow now uses a skill-first approach to determine review depth:

  • Skills are applied inline by default for standard diffs, keeping reviews fast and focused.
  • Agents are automatically invoked for large or high-stakes diffs where deeper analysis is warranted.

This means you get lighter-weight reviews on routine changes and more thorough analysis where it matters, without any manual configuration changes required.

Bug Fixes

Corrected OAuth Token Documentation for ai-release

The documentation previously contained an incorrect claim about how OAuth tokens are passed. OAuth tokens are not accepted via x-api-key (requests will be rejected); they must be passed via the Bearer authorization scheme. If you were following the old docs and experiencing authentication failures, update your workflow configuration to use Bearer token auth.

Commits

  • feat(claude-pr-review): skill-first review depth — skills inline by default, agents for large or high-stakes diffs (#43) (ecafe75)
  • docs(ai-release): correct the OAuth-token claim — rejected via x-api-key, works via Bearer (#42) (529cb5d)

release-workflows v1.6.0

This release updates the PR review workflow to prefer OAuth-based authentication for Claude, improving compatibility with Claude's recommended authentication approach.

Improvements

PR Review: Prefer CLAUDE_CODE_OAUTH_TOKEN over ANTHROPIC_API_KEY

The PR review workflow now checks for CLAUDE_CODE_OAUTH_TOKEN first, falling back to ANTHROPIC_API_KEY if not present. This aligns with Claude Code's recommended OAuth-based authentication method.

To take advantage of this change, add CLAUDE_CODE_OAUTH_TOKEN as a secret in your repository or organization settings. If you are already using ANTHROPIC_API_KEY, no changes are required — it will continue to work as a fallback.

Commits

  • feat(pr-review): prefer CLAUDE_CODE_OAUTH_TOKEN over ANTHROPIC_API_KEY (#41) (49c4ff2)

@github-actions github-actions released this 04 Jul 20:40
4e41621

release-workflows v1.5.0

This release improves the PR review workflow with smarter defaults for draft conversion and adds Dependabot version-update support for the repository itself.

Features

Dependabot Version Updates

Dependabot is now configured for automated dependency version updates, helping keep workflow dependencies current with minimal manual effort.

Improvements

PR Review: draft_on_blocking Enabled by Default

The draft_on_blocking option in the PR review workflow now defaults to true. When a blocking review or required check fails, pull requests will automatically be converted to draft status — no additional configuration needed for this behavior.

PR Review: Dependabot Branches Skipped

The PR review workflow now automatically skips Dependabot-created branches, avoiding unnecessary draft conversions or review enforcement on automated dependency update PRs.

Commits

  • feat(pr-review): default draft_on_blocking on, skip dependabot branches (#40) (4e41621)
  • chore(dependabot): add version-update config (#39) (625cc40)
