User Search
OpenMRS needs a way to access patient and caregiver records. To acquire that, search features for patient and caregiver records are available. Both of them are accessible from the homepage.
A list of the recent patient searches from this user in the assigned location is displayed in the form of a table with a search feature. The pagination is enabled when more than 15 records are available on the list.
The table provides the basic information overview needed to recognize a desired patient.

When clicking on any field in a row, the user is redirected to the dashboard of the chosen patient.
The search field allows to filter records by:
- Identifier (patient identifier generated and assigned during registration is used)
- Name
- Phone number
- ART number
The search feature looks in every mentioned above section (identifier, name, phone number and ART number) for provided input, so if the same sequence is available in more than one section, all matching records will be displayed.
If the user provides a white space into the search field between words, both words need to be present in one of the fields covered by the search. This means that if the user provides for example “John Smith”, those two words have to be present in the name of one patient. At least 2 characters of the word needs to be in the word, unless the search term is only 1 character long. I.e. "Jo Sm" will also return "John mith" as a result, while "J Sm" does not. If "J Smith" would exist, then that result will be returned.
By default, the search is executed through caregivers’ IDs and names. The search settings are changeable by the admin per implementation (see "Changing search options” chapter in the “Admin” section).
Find caregiver record page looks very similar as the patient search: it includes a table and the search feature.

Note: If a caregiver on the list was registered as a patient and then added as a caregiver to another patient, his patient ID would be displayed on the “Identifier” column.
