Migrating your WhatsApp tipline to Check

Thanks for choosing Meedan for your tipline. In order to migrate your number from your existing WhatsApp Business Service Provider, you need:

Access to your SIM card

Make sure you have a phone with a SIM card that is active on your tipline’s phone number. We cannot migrate your number without an active SIM card!

This is important because we will send an SMS message with an authentication code to that phone when we migrate your number.

Notify your existing WhatsApp Busines Service Provider, and export your data

• Tell them that you plan to migrate to Check.

• Let them know that they need to disable Two-factor Authentication on your account.

• Optional but recommended:

  • Ask them to provide you with a list of subscribers to any newsletters that you have in a CSV format so that we can import them.
  • Ask them to export all fact-checks, with associated user-submitted media, in a CSV format.

Create a WhatsApp Business Account

• WhatsApp will send you a request to allow Meedan to manage messages on your behalf.
• Follow these instructions, and confirm your contact at Meedan that it is complete.
• Following acceptance of that request, Meedan will schedule time with you to complete the migration by sending an authentication code to the telephone number you wish to connect. You will need a phone with the SIM card loaded to provide us with the authentication code.
