Construction and Maintenance

Construction

Every machine blueprint defines an ordered set of named sections. The highlighted section is the only part that currently accepts work.

  • Hold the requested material in your inventory.
  • Right-click the highlight with a construction hammer.
  • Accepted hits damage the hammer and advance that section.
  • Materials are consumed according to the section's blueprint data.

Attack an unfinished construction with the hammer to cancel it. The blueprint is returned. Materials already used are not refunded. If its supporting ground disappears before completion, the construction collapses and returns the blueprint.

Repair

Right-click a completed machine with a construction hammer to open maintenance. Repair cost follows the materials in its blueprint and the proportion of missing durability. A successful repair restores the machine completely and damages the hammer once.

Installed leather coverings on a siege tower become part of its repair cost.

Dismantling

Open maintenance, choose Dismantle, then strike the empty machine with the construction hammer until the work is complete.

  • All passengers and draft mounts must leave first.
  • Every accepted hit damages the hammer.
  • The returned materials depend on the machine's remaining durability and are lower than the original construction cost.
  • Dismantling can be cancelled from the maintenance screen before completion.

Siege tower coverings can instead be removed with shears to recover the exact leather used. The upper covering is removed before the lower one.

Automated work

With Villager Recruits installed, a siege engineer can build, repair or dismantle a machine using its own inventory and an assigned nearby supply container. See Integrations.
