Power Provider Available

estherRay edited this page Aug 17, 2026 · 1 revision

LOTUSim's power subsystem lets you give a vessel a battery and/or generator, tracked over the course of the simulation. Consumers (like sensors and thrusters) draw from these providers, and non-critical loads are automatically shed if power runs low.

For full architecture, SDF parameters, and load-shedding logic, see the Power Subsystem README.

Simple Battery

Minimal battery model for testing. Drains linearly based on current draw, with voltage scaling to state of charge. Type: simple_battery

Simple Generator

Minimal generator model for testing. Consumes fuel linearly based on power output and efficiency. Supports multiple fuel types (diesel, gasoline, LNG, hydrogen, methanol). Type: simple_generator

RPM Generator

Physics-based generator where fuel consumption is driven by a live RPM topic, following a propeller cubic law — more realistic than the simple generator. Produces no power and consumes no fuel at RPM = 0. Type: rpm_generator

Not sure which to use? Start with simple_battery for a straightforward power budget, and only reach for rpm_generator if you need fuel consumption tied to actual propeller speed.
