- Rocna 20 kg on the bowsprit roller
- Secured to roller with a Dyneema soft shackle + chain links from West Marine (2026-04)
- Material: Dyneema (SK75 or SK99) — knots cinch tight in slippery braid
- Construction: eye splice (or tightly dressed overhand-on-bight) at one end, diamond knot (knife lanyard knot) at the other for the button
- Modest loads — anchor-to-roller doesn't push the limits
- Bruce 30 aboard
- Pending — 2nd roller install before underway
- Primary: all chain (the original listing showed 100 ft chain + 150 ft nylon rode, but in practice it's chain throughout)
- Chain length ❓ — verify on next inspection
- Chain grade ❓ — verify on next inspection
Defiant did not come with a windlass from factory — there is no template.
The current plan (in planning, not yet executed):
- Looking for a rare Moritz manual windlass (out of production). Sources: Boaters' Resale Shop of Texas, Sailorman, Cruisers Forum classifieds, Sam L. Morse forum, Bayfield owners FB group. ~$600–1,200 typical.
- If Moritz can't be sourced, a manual Lofrans (Tigres / Cayman class) is appropriate for the 75 lb anchor.
- Mounting geometry: bowsprit is over open water (locker doesn't extend under bowsprit). Realistic approach is a locker-lid mount: split lid: half permanently bolted + reinforced for the windlass, half hinged for access; chain drops straight down through the gypsy into the locker.
- Anchor drop button at bow — pending install
- Homemade bridle: a single line looped back between the bow cleats, then clipped to the chain.
- Line size / length ❓
- Anchor locker hinges replaced (2026-03)
