NPC and object previews

Some authored quest steps highlight an NPC or object name. Hover the highlighted text in the Quest Helper or Separate Focus panel to open a preview beside the quest guidance. This helps you recognize what to find in the world; not every linked name has a preview.

Examples of RQE object and NPC preview windows

The South Point Station Valve object preview and The Grinder NPC model, shown beside their quest step.

Using the preview window

  • NPC links show a 3D creature model when one is available.
  • Object links show an image bundled with RQE when one is available; object images are not fetched live from Blizzard.
  • Mouse wheel zooms the preview. Drag inside the view to pan it. Drag the title to move the whole window.
  • Press the preview's X to close it. Hovering a different supported NPC or object replaces the current subject.

The preview normally closes when the active quest step changes, you focus another quest, or you clear the Quest Helper with C. It also closes when the Quest Helper no longer has searched or supertracked quest content. The preview can be disabled, resized, or repositioned under Creature and Object Preview in Frame Settings.

Object names and IDs

An object link's wording is chosen to make the quest instruction readable. The preview title comes from the descriptive name of RQE's bundled image, so it can differ from the highlighted words in the step. For example, a step might say [parts on the ground], while the preview is titled Fizzcrank Spare Parts and shows its numeric object ID.

Author-defined object keys beginning with a letter are only image identifiers. RQE hides those keys in the preview title. They are not Blizzard object IDs.

If an object preview says no bundled image was found, RQE does not have an image for that key. The link can still be useful as step text; a missing picture does not by itself mean the quest guidance is broken.
