utPLSQL Test Runner

Integrates utPLSQL into VSCode, bringing PL/SQL tests into the native Test Explorer, with context menu and visual coverage.

  • Native Test Explorer — suites and tests appear in the test view
  • CodeLens — Run/Run with Coverage buttons over %suite and %test in the editor
  • Keyboard shortcuts — Ctrl+Shift+U prefix + key for main commands (R = Run All, T = Run File, L = Rerun Last, etc.)
  • Context menu — right-click on a folder or .pks/.pkb file
  • Visual coverage — colored gutters + percentage per file
  • Inline decorations — ✓/✗/⚠ icons in the editor after execution with failure tooltip

  • Jump to failure — navigation to the failed assertion line (native Go to Error)
  • Connection profiles — save and switch between environments (DEV/TEST/PROD) with per-profile settings
  • Statement and view coverage — % of statements per file, and views tracked via V$SQL
  • Coverage scope — include/exclude objects and schema/object regexes (utplsql.coverage.*)
  • Tag filter and random order — filter tests with utplsql.tags and run in random order with a reproducible seed
  • Database-first discovery — suites from ut_runner.get_suites_info (fallback to ALL_SOURCE) plus the Rebuild Annotation Cache command
  • PL/SQL Debug — breakpoints and step debugging via DBMS_DEBUG

  • SQL scripts — run the current script, a file, or a whole folder against the active connection profile
  • Lazy test tree — in schema mode, packages/suites/tests are resolved on demand when expanded, so large schemas open instantly
  • Run with Reporter (Export) — run the selection with any database reporter and write the output to the Output panel or a file (utplsql.reporter.*), without changing the Test Explorer results
  • Virtual database source — with no local file, jump to failure and coverage open a read-only document resolved from ALL_SOURCE (utplsql-source:/…)
  • TNS in thin + wallet — utplsql.connections.tnsAdminPath resolves tnsnames.ora aliases in the thin driver; the profile walletLocation and utPLSQL: Set wallet password keep the wallet password in the SecretStorage
  • Connection security hardening — connection settings are machine-scoped, the extension is disabled in untrusted workspaces, and the profile password is bound to the connection
  • Compilation diagnostics — after every run, PL/SQL compilation errors (ALL_ERRORS) appear in the Problems Panel (utPLSQL Compilation)
  • Progress and cancellation — progress notification with counts and a Cancel button (plus the optional utplsql.timeoutMinutes)
  • Multi-root workspace — every workspace folder gets its own suites, with independent discovery, execution and coverage
