Keyboard Shortcut TSR

The keyboard shortcut is provided by a separate utility (!KEY.COM).

It is automatically managed by !HELPER.COM and its configuration is specified in LAUNCH.CFG. You can change the keyboard shortcut and enable/disable the !KEY.COM TSR altogether in Launch! Configuration > Shortcut. Or modify the following lines in LAUNCH.CFG:

shortcutEnabled=1
shortcutCtrl=1
shortcutAlt=1
shortcutShift=0
shortcutKey=\

The shortcut utility can be removed from memory with !KEY /UNLOAD.
Use !KEY /? for more information.

To maintain system integrity and security, !KEY.COM validates an authentication key in !.EXE to ensure the shortcut key will only ever execute (a genuine) Launch! menu.

Separate executables with the same functionality are provided to extend capability to specific architectures; !KEYDB.COM is for DOSBox users, !KEY286.COM is for 286 machines. There is also !TKEYxxx.COM executables that target the !86.EXE tiny menu instead of !.EXE.

This is to prevent one single keyboard utility becoming bloated in order to deal with different architectural requirements. There will likely be further !KEY###.COM builds in the future for more platforms where it is required.

The installer automatically installs the correct version (renaming to !KEY.COM). If manually installing, you'll need to rename the appropriate version to !KEY.COM yourself.
