- “Codex has not finished connecting” or a failed connection: install the matching v0.2.0 VSIX, finish active work and reopen the affected VS Code window. Open the Codex panel and retry account selection after it connects. The update waits for readiness, reports failed connections clearly and handles long-chat frames beyond the old 8 MiB limit. Active work and uncertain backend state still block switching safely.
- Accounts are missing: verify the account data directory and use Refresh. Desktop and extension must point to the same local store; there is no cloud account synchronization service.
- Usage fails: retry the affected account. Reconnect expired or revoked credentials. API-key billing does not expose ChatGPT usage windows.
- Switching is blocked: finish active work, resolve approvals, and clear queued follow-ups. Unknown backend activity is blocked conservatively.
- A launch target is missing: install that application and reopen Launch settings. Unverified standalone Codex versions cannot be selected.
- CLI closes immediately: use a complete Codex CLI installation. The VS Code extension helper may support app-server requests without supporting interactive CLI sessions.
- Windows path problems: use an absolute executable path without added shell commands, quotes, or arguments.
- Mac first open is blocked: follow the website's Gatekeeper first-open steps. Do not disable OS protections.
- An official Codex update breaks attachment: consult compatibility details and install the latest tested Multi Codex extension.
