Floorplan Setup

Floorplan Setup

A NAMO floorplan provides the shared coordinate system used for room placement, visual zones, and multi-device fusion. You can upload an existing plan or draw the building outline directly in the dashboard.

Before You Begin

  • Complete the initial device setup and open the local dashboard.
  • Decide where the radar is physically installed and which direction it faces.
  • If you already have a floorplan image, use a clear top-down image with visible walls.
  • For a connected multi-device Site, open the configuration owner before changing the shared floorplan.

Standalone radar detection does not require a floorplan.

Choose a Setup Method

Open Floorplan. When no floorplan is stored, choose one of these methods:

  • Select image uploads an existing floorplan and prepares it for device storage.
  • Draw floorplan creates the building outline, rooms, walls, and doors in the browser.

Floorplan setup choices

Upload an Existing Floorplan

1. Select the Image

Choose a floorplan image that clearly shows the full area. NAMO prepares a WebP copy sized for storage on the ESP32.

2. Review the Rooms

NAMO analyzes the image and proposes room regions. Review every room before continuing.

  • Rename rooms when needed.
  • Exclude regions that are not rooms.
  • Split, merge, add, or snap room regions with the editing tools.
  • Keep each room region inside the intended physical room.

Room editing

Automatic recognition is a starting point, not a measurement. Correct the result when walls, labels, furniture, or image compression confuse the analysis.

3. Set the Full Size

Enter the real width and height represented by the outer reference box. NAMO uses these values to convert image pixels into physical distance.

Measure the same outer area shown by the reference box. An incorrect size makes radar placement, room dimensions, and fused coordinates inaccurate.

4. Place the Radar

Drag the radar body to its physical location on the plan, then move the rotation handle until the radar faces the correct direction. Use fine scale adjustment only when the displayed radar range needs a small correction.

Radar position and zone editing

The Advanced options section contains radar occlusion exceptions. Use it only for a physical wall that the installed radar can actually see through.

5. Review and Save

Confirm the image, rooms, full size, and radar placement, then select Save. Keep the page open until the dashboard reports that saving is complete.

Draw a Floorplan Manually

Manual drawing is intended for a full home or floor, not just one room.

1. Draw the Outer Outline

Select the outer corners of the complete floorplan in order. At least three points are required. Points snap to a 0.5 m grid and existing corner lines, while segment lengths are displayed in 0.1 m units.

The outline may be a polygon, so L-shaped and other non-rectangular layouts are supported. Make sure edges do not cross.

2. Add Rooms

After confirming the outer outline, add each room as a separate polygon inside it. A room cannot extend outside the outer outline.

Room boundaries created during the first save are also stored as physical walls for radar occlusion. After saving, logical room regions can be adjusted without moving those frozen physical walls.

3. Add Doors

Choose Add door, select a hinged or sliding door, and place it on a physical wall.

  • Doors snap to walls.
  • Drag a door along the same wall to move it.
  • Drag its endpoints to adjust its width.
  • A saved door also registers that location as an exit point.

If the door cannot be placed, move the pointer closer to a wall and confirm that enough wall length is available.

4. Place the Radar and Save

Place and rotate the radar as described in the upload workflow, review the result, and save it to the device.

The initial outer outline and physical room walls become the structural drawing. To replace that structure, create a new floorplan instead of treating logical room editing as wall remodeling.

Edit a Saved Floorplan

Open Floorplan, then select Edit. The current editor provides:

Tool What it changes
Edit rooms Room names and logical room regions; manually drawn doors can also be moved, resized, added, or removed here.
Full floorplan size The real-world scale and estimated room dimensions.
Change radar position This device's radar origin, direction, scale fine-tuning, and advanced occlusion exceptions.
Edit zones Detection and exit zones.
Edit correction zones Blocked, reduced-sensitivity, or disabled areas used for false-detection control.
Furniture layout Beds, desks, tables, sofas, and TV consoles used as visual references.

Furniture layout

Select Save changes and wait for the completion message before leaving the page.

Replace or Delete a Floorplan

Replace

Use Replace floorplan when the image, outer structure, or coordinate frame must change. Connected NAMO devices continue to use one shared floorplan.

If a device's saved radar position falls outside the new coordinate frame, NAMO moves that radar to the center and lists the devices whose radar positions must be set again.

Delete

A shared floorplan cannot be deleted while other NAMO devices remain connected. Disconnect those devices first, or replace the floorplan instead.

In a connected Site, shared floorplan changes must be made from the configuration owner. Other devices provide a button that opens the correct device when its address is available.

Confirm the Result

Setup is complete when:

  • Floorplan reports that saved data is ready.
  • The dashboard shows Floorplan ready.
  • Room names and the radar position appear in the expected places.
  • Walking in front of the radar moves the target in the expected direction.

If the direction is reversed or rotated, correct the radar position and rotation before creating many zones or pairing additional devices.

Troubleshooting

The uploaded image produces incorrect rooms

Use the room editing tools to remove false regions and add or reshape missing rooms. A cleaner image with stronger wall contrast may also improve the initial analysis.

The target is in the wrong part of the plan

Check the full floorplan size, radar origin, and radar rotation. Do not compensate for a placement error by moving every zone.

A wall is incorrectly blocking the radar view

Open Edit > Change radar position > Advanced options and review occlusion exceptions. Exclude only a physical wall the radar can genuinely see through.

Shared floorplan controls are unavailable

Open the configuration owner shown by the dashboard. Check that all connected devices have finished recovering before changing shared settings.
